Anata no Tameni
Does anyone know the words to the poem featured in the opening videos of both the PS2 and DS versions of Flower, Sun, and Rain? I have the lyrics to the actual song (untranslated), but I don't know the actual poem. If the song is from Toriko's point-of-view, which it seems to be, then I bet the poem is from Sumio's, and since they were both written by Suda 51, I bet they're important. "涙の花園" seems to translate to "flower garden of tears", and is said normally as "Namida no hanazono", but in the song Mia only sings "namida no" and follows it up with "niwa", which indeed is represented in kana next to those characters. I don't understand this. It must be an alternate reading. My paper dictionary says "niwa" means "garden", which would fit. I guess writing it as 花園 instead of にわ is more symbolic or "stylish"? I wish I knew Japanese better. I'm slowly studying. I'm actually working on translating and (to an extent) localizing the character bios that you can get in FSR-DS. Each time you meet a character, it displays a bit of information about them inside KATHARINE. I've gotten Sumio's and Yayoi's done. I'm still working on Remy's and Koshi's.

She definitely does sing about a garden at one point. That garden(looks more like a sea) of flowers (camellias?) that Mia drowns herself in during the FSR music video is kickass. That's the type of artistic expression that I wish Suda would concentrate more on. Unfortunately he needs to make money, and only over the top violent games sell these days. Anyway the most I ever got out of that song was that she's singing something about garden,not yet known,rain,flowers,sun,a fleeting morning, stream of consciousness,flow to heaven, revived memories,friends, etc. Words in bold were bolded out, because they are definitely referring to the in game events + Silver Case. ____________________________ She relays a lot of emotions & events, that it frikkin' makes your brain explode trying to piece it all together. Much of what she's saying has multiple meanings that seem to be relevant to the game. 流れ nagareru (flow to/stream): "Stream of consciousness" can also be read as a "rapid stream", or "flow to heaven". Either way they all make sense when you look at the word individually. It's when you try to piece it together with the rest of the song that it starts to get confusing. Hah hah it kinda makes me wonder how badly I'm being laughed at right now by those who are fluent in Japanese. (I don't speak or read it at all. I just grew up hearing it. I use online translations to aid my comprehension. I'm a lot like that Silver Case song where the female computer voice is speaking in English, but then she tells you that English isn't her native tongue & expression.) That's basically been my problem with Suda's Japanese games all along. I have a hard time trying to derive the meaning, because much of the dialogue seems to be metaphorical. They don't make much sense if you were to literally translate it. Our mind automatically registers the word Fatal when you hear the words fate & ill close together. (It sorta sounds like she's singing in onomatopoeia.) So I guess she's actually speaking entire sentences (Or spitting out a bunch of random gibberish that makes sense metaphorically.) throughout the song, but she makes it sound as if she were saying one big word. The odd thing is that even in the official lyrics it's written in katakana, which is most often used for foreign words (though Suda 51 also uses it for all character names, which helps them stand out). It seems to me that she's asking a question (do wo ka?), and the next line is the answer (do wo ka? afuneru. do wo ka? namida). For a long time I thought it was simply dou ka (or, preferably, dō ka), which could seem to translate to something like "For you?" I got thrown for a loop when I found out it was "do-wo-ka". The katakana "wo" tends to sound like an "o", so that's why it sounded like a long O to me. At the moment, I don't know what to make of "do-wo-ka", but I'm still working on it. I want to finish those up, and also work on Tokio and Edo next. I discovered some interesting things about Remy and Ritz while working on these.
