Scarface is aight.
At first I thought this thread was going to be about the original black & white Scarface.

Yeah, it's a sad fact that it's made every 'gangstah rapper' a wannabe Montana.
I'm kinda of offended with that comment. Gangsta Rap doesn't exist anymore. While I do understand what you mean. I feel that the term "gangsta rap" is incorrect. I haven't heard any true gangsta rap from America since 1998. (Well there was Westside Connection a couple years ago.)
G-rap is more or less an underground movement now.
Real gangsta rap preaches awareness & the truth.
The fake ass shit that we have today is all about the glamour & glitz.
Most of todays "gangsta rappers" aren't even gangster. They're all studio made gangsters. Mofo's like 50 cent & the gay unit are just pop pretending to be rap.
Compare
Bone Thugs "East 1999"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M23tgLoBFgU
to some bitch made pussies like
Soulja Boy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vum3qgoh0x4
You'll definitely see a clear difference in style between the two.
The former is kinda scary & sounds like poetry in motion.
The latter is goofy as fuck, & sounds like mothergoose nursery rhymes.
The former sounds like it's transmitting information using a secret code. The latter sounds like ignorant self endorsing bullshit.
The East 1999 cut is mostly talking about slangin' dope. You'll also see many paranormal references & themes scattered throughout Bone's lyrics warning people to take up arms once martial law occurs. (Eazy E believed that the world would end at 1999. Which coincidentally happens to be the same street that Bone Thugs hail from.)
You never see any deep shit like that in a modern day pop/rap song.
Here's another example of a Gansta Rap song with hidden messages.
Ice Cube Ghetto Bird
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wN1hgc-AlOk
He's talking about police brutality, & how the hood routinely has a helicopter that constantly spies on them "George Orwell Big Brother 1984" style.
He's trying to get away although he never did anything wrong, his only crime is that he's Black, lol.
Note: This is exactly what happens in the Middle East with the Israelis hunting down Palestinians.
IMO, that's one fucked up song when you finally decode the message.
Ghetto Bird paints a portrait of how corrupt our government was.
(It's actually gotten worse now. "War on Terrorism")
Gangsta rap is often explicit, because the truth is harsh.
(Which is why the government was trying their best to pass anti gangsta/thug legistlation back in the 90s. Early 90's Gangsta Rap was awakening portions of the populace in much the same way that Malcolm X & MLK Jr. did back in the 70's.)
Most people don't even know the true meaning of the word thug.
The Hate U Gave us fucks us all.
Thug represented repressed youth who have the stacks held against them since the day they were born.
Gangsta rap used to have meaning & a shit load of hidden messages that were intended to educate the urban youth with knowledge about how our gorvernment is run if you take the time to decode the lyrics.
(Tupac being one of the prime examples.)
Most of todays music is nothing more then dumbed down corporate bullshit.
Which is the main reason why our government no longer bothers with hip hop.
(Hip hop is no longer a threat, because most of the popular artists rap about themselves rather than spreading messages.)
Sure gangsta rap often talks about murder, hoes & shit, but when true Ganxsta Rap did it. They did it right.
This is what real Gangsta Rap sounds like.
Serial Killer (That song is straight up gansta.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sT7DMfxHPlE
This is what fake ass shit sounds like.
P.I.M.P. (Sounds like easy to digest mass marketed bullshit with little value devoid of meaning.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9nsxKFqjFw
Notice how Snoop is in both vids.
(He's a sell out. Eazy E did call him a fake ass bitch way back in the day. L
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8qKvZW64kY)
The most noticeable difference between the lyrical content of Real Gangsta Rap & that fake busta shit.
Is that real Gangsta Rap actually contains relevant messages & uses a lot of big words & metaphors.
