Because you all seem to be a pretty opinionated lot... I want you guys to express your opinions on something for me. For my english assignment, I have to write a persuasive/opinionative feature article on control/authority and I've decided to write about press/media censorship.
I've decided to reference a few videogames and texts, but decided it would be cool if you guys could share what you think. Did K7 have anything about press censorship?
Feel free to move this if it's in the wrong place.
KIRBY 7- 02-12-2007
Re: Because you all seem to be a pretty opinionated lot... What's that suppose to mean?
Everybody in general is opinionated.
You know the ol' saying opinions are like ass cracks every one has them.
K7 did have media control in the form of Alter ego
(Love Wilcox spreading political propaganda in the form of a famous comic book called the "Handsome Men")
The entire game itself is basically just Garcian Smith being manipulated by the United States government in order to secure his loyalty as an attack dog that serves American interests.
(Garcian Smith is bound by his loyalty to a man, whom he believes is Harman Smith.)
You know, pretty much like Ichi the Killer.
Remember how the old grandpa would manipulate Ichi by inserting implanted memories of a girl he liked being gang rape into his head.
The old guy would than constantly remind Ichi that everybody he's killing are all bullies that raped that chick.
Garcian was going through the same exact exercise, except in Garci's case almost any one who personally knew him was in on the whole charade. (Samantha,Chris Mills.)
Which is why when both Samantha & Mills die, Garcian's repressed memories come back to haunt him, because there's nobody around to facilitate his charade any more.
As a result of Linda Vermilion killing Garcian's last tie with the government, she told him to seek out the answers & figure out how the system works.
("System" IMO refers to both the voting process & the method of conduct that was used in order to create elite assassins like Garci & Linda.)
The Coburn elementary itself was a propaganda breeding ground.
It's sole purpose was to brainwash children through subliminal means to become enimies of the governent instilled by the "teachings" of the school.
Coburn was a facility that only looked liked a school on the surface, but in reality it was really an underworld project devised or taken advantaged of by Japan.
Contrast that with the Ichi the Killer manga. When Ichi grew up (Mentally) he became a normal young adult in Japan, because without the old man around to manipulate Ichi's psyche. Ichi gradually became absorbed into the typical tokyo night life.
The Smile 2 chapter was a prime example of authority controlled info manipulation.
http://www.killer7.3dactionplanet.gamespy.com/fbi.htm
There are many times when the FBI agent himself would comment about how the government was purposely altering Emir's government documents.
Have the records been fabricated? The government has gone too far...
(For some reason most K7 fans on the internet fail to notice the importance of this particular line of dialogue.
Since I haven't slept yet & I don't feel like writing a two hour post I just copy & paste what I wrote in my website.
Basically what's being expressed here is that Emir Parkreiner or Garcian Smith,
(Which ever you prefer.)
Has been stealing the identity of a man named Emir Parkreiner.
Emir's identity was fabricated & possibly sanctioned by the "government".
The Emir who died during 11,22,1952 IS NOT the same Emir Parkreiner that we know as Garcian Smith. The reason why the date does not sound plausible is because this is an obvious case of identity theft.
In the Japanese version of K7, Emir is born in Nevada. In the U.S. version he is born in Alabama.
The significance of this info is that in my opinion...
Emir's profiles were deliberately different for U.S. & Japan,
because it was another way to express the propaganda theme in Killer 7,
and how governments can get you to believe falsified documents as fact.
What needs to be known is that Garcian's real name is neither Emir Parkreiner nor Garcian Smith.
He is merely a government lap dog who has stolen the identity of a dead man.
I'm not sure if any of this was relavent to your assignment though.
Akura- 02-12-2007
No, it was incredibly helpful. Thanks so much, man =)
(And by 'opinionated' I meant more than most...)
Lisker- 02-12-2007
I think she means we're pretentious, arrogant bastards who think we know more than others.
...as much as I want to, I can't argue with that.
I also figured out how the whole Japanese organization where that guy was the leader of 10 million people. Those people make the votes...and the switcharoo is done at the school voting...that sounds so vague and undescriptive but dammit...someones name escapes me at the moment.......I have no idea what they said.
The Killer7-Resident Evil 4 theory was brilliant, though. Now that I think about it, both stories frequently use the word 'is.' I wonder if it means something...
Most people don't give a damn about politics because it's too confusing, or they see all the bullshit on television and assume everyone's corrupt. I feel the same way about how politicians are essentially buttfucking the people, but I just can't bring myself to tune out whenever I hear the word 'politics' like most do, so it just causes me unneeded agony.
I've heard a lot of stuff in recent elections relating to all kinds of fraud to steal votes, from slowing down the speed of voting booths in certain (heavily black) communities, to sending endless automated messages to people that they're led to believe were made by their opponents, to having numerous votes simply 'disappear.' All these tactics seem to be used by Republicans. I'm not sure if it's exactly a coincidence or not, especially since they're pretty much the 'in control' group, representing the status quo, while Democrats are...pathetic. I guess if elections were actual races, the Republican would be the steroid-fueled man using a tire iron to club others, the Democrat would be the one giving the Republican their lunch money before running home to mommy, and the Independant would never even be allowed on the starting line in order to compete.
Oh yeah, and the Diebold voting machines, the ones everyone's talking about being so easy to hack in order to change votes, and have no paper trail whatsoever...the head of the Diebold company was quoted as saying he'll do everything he can to ensure Republicans win.
I'm sure this is a much better K7 community than others, I don't have to be subjected to numerous quotes all the time. It's like America was immediately after Austin Powers 2 came out.
And I happen to find your posts fascinating. They nearly make my head explode when reading, but only because they're so thought provoking.
Jedilink- 02-17-2007
Haha, yeah I enjoy someone ACTUALLY caring about what they put down. I mean look at me, I just come up with some stupid reply or just some goofball response. But you tend to actually say things that, you know....sound thought out. :P Haha.
True Grave- 02-19-2007
Hey I'm arrogant, and pretentious? Wow, even more we have in common Topdrunkee! I feel arrogant with K7 because I'm at least open-minded enough to play something out of the big franchise line-up.
As for any other examples of me being arrogant, well I apologize if I have hurt feelings. Let me know if its a problem.
Aside from that, Topdrunkee, I do enjoy reading your posts, and I agree that they are facinating. I think I gain a better understanding of the K7 plot now that I have joined this forum. I really do enjoy this forum, and the members here. And after what you have spoke of in the other K7 forums I'd rather stay here.
First I will say that Topdrunkee has convinced me to stop looking at Killer 7 with the Good vs. Evil glasses. What he has said (these posts and past) clearly contradicts my thoughts about who really is "good" and whos "evil." I will only base good and evil on characters that the game will classify as good or evil. I feel that Dan carries the evil sense because the game will call him the Hellion, Tyrant, or other words associated with the idea of being "evil." Plus he is the only character we see come in contact with a denizen of Hell. And the game has referred to Coyote as being the anti-Dan, or in my example the "good" Dan.
However, since I am now looking at these assumptions at more than one angle (as influenced by Topdrunkee) I can make this statement. If Coyote is the "good" Dan, then why is he a theif? Or why does he profit from being a criminal? An "evil" job? See? I just contradicted myself. Further giving an example stated by Topdrunkee that the good and evil thing cannot be taken seriously when talking about K7. Harman and Kun are the most common example of the good and evil. I remember that particular plot faq on gamefaqs that spoke of this, calling Harman the good and Kun the evil. But it too contradicted itself in this way: in the final episode when we see the two playing chess, the player pieces are opposite their nature. Kun's pieces are white (good) and Harman's are black (evil). That particular plot faq made alot of good evil references. I remember the author state Emir/Garcian as being evil just because he was black and being compared to Harman the good, religious garb-wearing, WHITE man. I cannot agree with that. But I will say that Topdrunkee should e-mail his thoughts about the theme of good and evil to that plot faq author (sorry i forgot his name).
As far as the politics go, I will say that Topdrunkee has convinced me with his musing and my re-plays of the game that the political material play an even larger part than I originally thought after my first play-through. I will also say this, Topdrunkee (IMO) has a better understanding of worldy politics than I do. Therefore I feel that I cannot participate in those discussions as seriously as I'd like to. But after reading his posts I feel that I am learning.
And today, I feel like I've learned something new from yet a different angle in K7. I never really made that assumption that Emir Parkreiner isn't Garcian Smith. That I fell into the trap of government falsified documents. This again, shows my appreciation and fascination with K7 due to the very intricate and detailed plot.
Lastly, I'd like to say that Topdrunkee should continue his long posts. I do read them, word for word.
KIRBY 7- 02-20-2007
Hey I'm arrogant, and pretentious? Wow, even more we have in common Topdrunkee! .
Nah don't get it twisted, I'm not saying that you are indeed arrogant & pretentious. I'm just saying that the only person around here besides myself who could possibly be labeled as such is you.
Fo real though, this forum doesn't seem that opinonated to me.
I've been to countless other forums where you will see pompous elitist ass posters who are much worse than I am.
Insert Credit.com, Kongming.net, Gaming World, Skullknight.net, Mindwerks,Magic box,Shoryuken.com, practically any Shin Megami tensei online community that you could think of
(I'm referring to SMT communities that have been around since the late 90's early 2000's, not the newer ones like Kroni's.),countless Final Fantasy forums (Well Japanese RPG forums in general),Gamefaqs, etc.
The bolded forums are the sites with the most pretentious bastards.
Coincidentally I've been ousted out of one or two of those forums, because I don't have as much clout as the other members who have been there longer.
Yet I tend to always post as if people should give a damn regardless of the fact that I'm usually a newbie who only makes like 5 posts that are as long as a god damn novel.
At least with I, I can actually explain to you word for word why or how I came to the conclusions that I have made.
Though if I were to compare this site to other K7 communities then, I agree this place is more stuck up than the other K7 related places, but at the same it's also the only one that actually has something original to say about the K7 story rather than regurgitating what the plot faq said.
And after what you have spoke of in the other K7 forums I'd rather stay here.
Yeah I was attempting
(& failed, judging by how cult this place still is, & probably always will be.)
to create a real Killer 7 community, one that actually philosophizes & theorizes about the game rather than just endless ranting, quoting &
"Wow this game is confusing, but yet I still love K7 anyway."
"The game is not suppose to be fun, that's what makes Killer 7 good."
When normal sane people see K7 fans speak & act like that, they usually just point & laugh at how retarded they are.
(Especially Insert Credit.com)
With good reason.
How can you honestly say that a story is deep & complex if you can't understand it?
I love Ghost in the Shell, but as much love as I got for GITS.
I for the life of me, can not understand a damn thang that is going on in GITS Man Machine Interface.
I assumed it's because I don't understand science/ techno babble.
Yet I see many people on the net say that Masamune actually made up half the words that he used in Man Machine Interface.
So that only furthers the huge question mark in my head called Ghost in the Shell Man Machine Interface.
Since I don't understand the story, when asked what's so good about Man Machine Interface I usually reply "The art,the sexy threesome lesbo cyber sex, the nigerian cybersex rape scene, & the hot bitches!"
The funny thing is I can understand the Gits SAC & Sac 2 tv series on at least a basic level, because both stories revolve around politics.
I mean I myself am into the game "Dreamfall the longest Journey"
Yet I have no idea what the hell the story is actually about.
It seems like it could be religious satire yet at the same it also seems like Dreamfall is lampooning the situation with Iraq.
Part of the reason why the game is so confusing is because Dreamfall is only the first part of a two part series.
(Dreamfall is a sequel to The Longest Journey, but Dreamfall as a sequel is divided into two games. The second of which hasn't been released yet.)
Since Dreamfall has an even bigger cliffhanger than MGS 2 & two of the main chicks both get killed.
(One died from a drug overdose, the other chick got stabbed by a spear, & fell into a river.)
It makes the game even more confusing, because the game ends with a big "WTF just happened here" moment.
Although I may not fully comprehend the story of Dreamfall, I can still talk about how well written the dialogue is. (Which is, for the most part true.)
That's the problem I have with most Killer 7 fans. They don't talk about how dope the dialogue is in Killer 7. Instead they get all gigidy like a bunch of japanese schoolgirls in mini skirts & get all Matrix
(pretentious & obtuse) up that ass with their half assed conjecture that really didn't take much thought into consideration.
Since all they really do is repeat what the game said.
Yup, that's exactly why I label the Good v.s Evil angle as a red herring.
It's only there to confuse you & distract you from the real objective of the story.
As can be shown by the majority of the Killer 7 fan base.
Note: As I said there's nothing deep or profound about a story of
Good V.S. Evil.
(That should've been the first clue to tell you that it's not the real focus of Killer 7.)
If that were true than we might as well label the Star Wars or Lord of the Rings movies as the most thought provoking movies of all time, since it's perfectly clear in those movies who the good, the evil, & the once good but now evil are.
I'd doubt that he'd respond.
I used to speak to him back when the game first came out.
(K7 SIN is even listed at the end of his document as one of the main sites that have his permission to host the plot faq.)
He practically abandoned the K7 community, (I don't blame him.)
& it seems like he some what regrets writing the plot faq & translating Hand in Killer 7, because of the controversy that stemmed from both of the documents.
(Hell the Deltahead translation group, doesn't even bother to add a link to the HIK 7 translation any more. Instead they only place links to all their Metal Gear Solid related work.)
While it was his faq that actually helped set moi on to the right path.
(Almost everything that he states about the political angle coincides with what I believe, I've just expanded upon it ten fold.
Originally I thought the "Yakumo" was just a code word for the Yakuza.)
His faq is also the reason why nobody listens to me. (hah hah)
What most Killer 7 fans fail to see is that his plot faq is meant to only be used as a guide.
Not as an end all be all source of all Killer 7 knowledge.
(Since I myself can contradict almost the entire document due to my expierince with Suda's former games FSR & Silver Case.)
He even says at the end of the faq, that his plot faq is only his interpretation of the story, & that everybody should go out & make interpretations of their own.
Sure you could say that I could make my own faq, but IMO what's the point.
I would just be labeled as a pretender much like I am now.
I even made a convincing relationship chart that I don't even bother to publicize, because I actually have the nerve to use HIK 7 as part of my basis for the chart.
(Although Jack Foley/Jaco checkbox is never mentioned in game.
I think it's pretty safe to assume that he's still the guy on the upper echelon of the government food chain who was handing out all the assignments to Chris Mills & is also the same who used Samantha to manipulate Garcian Smith. Since Jack Foley is the main individual in the game who actually has a personal vendetta against Kun Lan.
Harman only hunts Kun Lan down, because it's his job as a hitman.
Other than that Harman & Kun Lan are actually good friends with each other as can be seen by the cutscenes in the game.)
What's funny IMO is that when I imported Silver Case.
Lo & behold what do I see whn I first open the game up.
A Silver Case relationship chart, much similar to the one that I devised for Killer 7.
BTW Con's Angel I didn't bother to rename the names yet, because I'm too lazy to work on it.
Silver Case also had a huge government conspiracy, although it was on a lesser scale than Killer 7's.
(It mostly revolved around cleaning the streets of all undesireable people of the populace in a certain prefecture in Japan.),
Unlike Killer 7, the main detective that you are partners with, (Tsuguro Kusabi) is actually succesful in overthrowing at least one part of the conspiracy.
Note: It was Chizuru's
(The bloody woman pictured in the K7 SIN forum logo)
father the police chief of Ward 24 who was responsible for orchestrating the political "Silver Case" assassinations & the resulting shoot out that occurred because of the "Silver Case" murders from 20 yrs ago.
The "Silver Case" murders that have been attributed to Uehara Kamui were actually false accusations, but they are believable since he's a crazy ass psycopathic killer who can conduct a legion of copy cat killers through propaganda from his website.
----
However a plot twist reveals that Kusabi wasn't as successful as he thought since he unknowingly let one of the culprits get away.
The remaining suspect that got away unscathed from the bloodbath, was you the main character.
Kusabi had no reason to suspect that you were part of the TRO/CCO scandal, plus he never bothered to question about what your origins were until Sakura Natsume brought up details about your ambiguous identity up to him during the ending. Unfortunately by the time that happens, the main character is already long gone & out of Kusabi's sight.
The story than continues with FSR, but we never hear about the main character from Silver Case since FSR revolves around Sumio, the other detective who was one of your main partners. Sumio was fired & arrested from his job in Silver Case after he manipulated an entire city to blow itself up.
In killer 7 the revelation that we get is that Garcian, finally finds out that he is the Killer 7.
Other than that the rest of the world is still fucked up.
When I see crap like that, it just shames moi how barely anybody takes this site seriously.
To be honest, I've never noticed it either, until I downloaded Sal's sound/mp3 .rars.
The more I listen to Hoburn's FBI commentary, along with Mill's last meeting, Linda Vermilion's cut scene, & all speeches with Young Harman
the more I realize that Garcian & Emir are both pseudonyms for the main character that we know of as Garcian Smith/ Emir Parkreiner.
(Which actually does make sense since it's common practice for government agents/killers to operate using a false name regardless of whether the agent/killer is aware of it or not.
Lisker- 02-21-2007
I could never understand those people who think being on a forum for so long is something to be proud of...
BobTheDarkOne- 02-21-2007
^^^Agreed. It especially pisses when they think it gives them privileges.
And I like your walls of text too Top, but please for the love of Harman no more naked action figures :(
Jedilink- 02-27-2007
Wow...someone saying a Black man is evil because of his "blackness"?!?!? How.........obsurdly racist. :P
Jedilink- 02-27-2007
Oh ummm, we ARE talking about the Schlockeyhaynes FAQ right?! (or however you spell it :P) Haha.
True Grave- 02-27-2007
Thats shockley holmes for ya.
I also wish to ask your opinion, Topdrunkee, on the final moments of Target: Smile.
I see your point an it makes sense that Emir is really dead, and Garcian really is..Well thats my question. Garcian does confront Emir on top of the Hotel. And he opens his case and see the guns, etc. in it. Who is Garcian?
Or do the fabricated documents just speak that Emir is dead, but he really isn't.
I ask only of your opinion.
Jedilink- 02-27-2007
I intend to investigate this whole question of who Garcian is I think! Hmm......
