BERSERK http://www.younganimal.com/berserk
Do I really need to explain what Berserk is to y'all?
It's f'n Berserk
Be sure to check out the website.
(It has dope BGM.)

I've been recently getting into the manga allot and I find it to be a more enjoyable then most other manga out their. I love the way Guts is just a normal human yet overcomes many creatures stronger then himself just by pure force of will. The artwork is awesome and the story really flows well.
KIRBY 7- 05-16-2007
Don't get too attached to Guts.
Later on in the series Guts loses his eye, & slices his own arm off just to save Casca from the God Hand.
(He didn't save her btw.)
Well instead of telling I should just show you with this vid I made.

As the story progresses Guts gets more & more Berserk.
(Right now he's trying to contain himself from succumbing to the anger or else his inner beast wi ll lash out.
The true beauty of Berserk occurs after the Eclipse.

The story is actually about the world & how it is controlled by the Idea of Casualty.
http://www.ai-worlds.com/article/1_e.shtml
The story of Berserk basically revolves around the principle that i just linked to.
Every moment & move in our life was predetermined before hand by the powers that be.
Our life's are all part of one gigantic play where we all play our birth given parts & roles in the world.
Griffith is like the anti christ, who every body views as a saviour.
Guts is just some random guy who's caught up in the battle against Casualty.
Basically Guts is trying to break outside of the machine & create his own story. One that is not governed by predestined cause & effect.
I guess what I'm getting at is that the plot of Berserk is surprisingly deep.
You would never guess it judging by how similar it looks & feels to Fist of the North Star.
Dalemushashi- 05-17-2007
Oh I've read the manga up to vol 14 I new about that stuff. But yes he seems to be becoming more and more berserk as the series goes on. Try not to give away anything past Volume 14 of the manga. But thanks for the info anyway.
True Grave- 05-29-2007
I haven't read the manga yet, but I have seen enough of the anime (not all of it) to enjoy Berserk.
I then found the game, and qucikly added it to my top faves based on the pure quality.
I figure that Guts must have went through some shit. The stuff you siad Topdrunkee I found out already since the game is a sequel of sorts. He already has his eye lost, and we do know that Casca is dead.
And now that you mention it, Berserk is quite like Fist of the Northstar. But I'll say that Fist surprised me with its deeper than I thought storyline. The whole conflict with the true successor, Shin, and Julia was a nice mix.
I need to read all the manga.
KIRBY 7- 06-03-2007
Y'all seem to be misunderstanding Berserk.
Here's a page that gives you a quick run down of what needs to be known.
http://www.berserkchronicles.com/englishpage.php?link=faq_en.htm
The best site to go to is skullknight.net, but the wealth of information at that site might be too much to consume all at one time.
So I chose the above link mainly for it's brevity.
(Although it's not as accurate as the explanations that are found at skullknight.)
As it stands y'all are sounding exactly like the way I use to when ever I spoke about Ghost in the Shell.
Back when I was like 18 or what not.
(Back in the day I would only talk about Motoko Kusanagi's fine ass rather than the politics & philosophy behind Ghost in the Shell.)
But yes he seems to be becoming more and more berserk as the series goes on.
Try not to place too much attention to Guts getting more berserk, because that's not the main point of the story.
If anything it's superficial at best.
Since he was marked during the eclipse, the demons now claim ownership to his body & soul.
As a result of being hunted by super natural beings for the rest of his life.
It would most likely drive anybody crazy.
Gut's is basically an anomaly who broke away from the way the system works. The time line of the world, because
He was originally planned to be one of the sacrifices of the Eclipse.
However he broke the system of casualty, when Skull Knight came & saved him from his imminent death.
As a result of that, Guts now lives outside of the system, & he exists in between worlds.
Our dimension, & the Nexus. The spiritual plane.
http://skullknight.net/encyclopedia/universe/
Basically Gut's is a lot like Kun Lan.
Kun Lan in Killer 7 was an astral projection from a higher density level which from our (Human) perspective would make him appear to be a god like.
Guts has the chance to change the status quo, simply because he now exists outside of it.
In a way you could probably say that he's a time paradox.
Try not to give away anything past Volume 14 of the manga. But thanks for the info anyway.
I couldn't even if I wanted to. The grand epic is still being told.
http://skullknight.net/encyclopedia/information/index.html
Berserk the manga is what Killer 7 would look like if the story of Killer 7 began with the beginning of the Hand in Killer 7 timeline.
(When Harman Smith is elected principal of Coburn Elementary.)
all the way to the end of the HIK 7 timeline.
(Which would be the final conflict with Mask De Smith's Killer 7 vs. the Heaven's Tears.)
In other worlds Berserk hasn't ended yet.
(& probably won't reach it's conclusion until another 10 or 15 yrs.)
Shit, If only the Killer 7 comic were anywhere near as epic as Berserk.
Killer 7 already has the story to do so, too bad the Killer 7 comic had incompetent writers. (Who knew next to nothing about how politics works. Hell for that matter, the Killer 7 comic book didn't seem to have a clear understanding of the plot at all.)
I haven't read the manga yet, but I have seen enough of the anime (not all of it) to enjoy Berserk.
The anime is a piece of crap compared to the manga.
http://skullknight.net/forum/index.php?topic=7847.msg134763#new
(Too many of the crucial scenes integral to Berserk have either been omitted or censored out of the anime.)
It's only use is to get people interested in the manga.
(I myself was first introduced to Berserk with the anime. Only to be shocked to find out how hardcore, depraved & well written the manga actually is.)
To put it bluntly Berserk the anime is like Killer 7 the game. It's derived from the manga, but with a few concessions & edits made here & there.
(Similar to the relationship between Hand in Killer 7 & Killer 7.)
In one part of the manga you can see Guts eating a kids skull, an orgy of sexy women being massacred to breed monsters, the motha fucking eclipse, etc.
Best of all, all of that nonsense blends in perfectly within the context of the epic ass story.
I figure that Guts must have went through some shit. The stuff you siad Topdrunkee I found out already since the game is a sequel of sorts. He already has his eye lost, and we do know that Casca is dead.
That's strange I could've sworn that Casca was in the Dreamcast game.
I never said she was dead. I just said that Guts didn't save her.
Skeleton Knight broke into the Eclipse & he rescued both Guts & Casca.
Casca has been brain dead ever since, & Guts himself exists between worlds.
The dreamcast game is actually a side story.
There's no way that the game could be a sequel, since the story of Berserk never ended. It's an ongoing series that's still in production
(Berserk is over 20 yrs. old, & the manga is currently at the halfway point.
Griffith is attaijning his kingdom & Gits is on his way to some elf vlillage.)
And now that you mention it, Berserk is quite like Fist of the Northstar. But I'll say that Fist surprised me with its deeper than I thought storyline. The whole conflict with the true successor, Shin, and Julia was a nice mix.
Fist is a bit more complex than I give it credit for, but it's nowhere near the league of Berserk.
Berserk is probably what Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne would look like if it were set in a Heavy metal medieval Dark age universe.
The only thing Berserk & FIST have in common is that they're both soap operas tailor made for men.
Fist of the North star is more like Dragon Ball Z for men.
If anything Berserk has the most in common with the Legacy of Kain series.
They both use a similar plot structure.
Legacy of Kain revolves around a limbo of fate & torment.
Berserk revolves around Casualty
The law of cause and effect. Every action has a reaction, whether its nature is known to us or not. Everything in the Berserk world is bound to the strings of Causality. Each person's situation and even emotional states are tempered through years of careful, causal manipulation. This is, among other possible motives, the Idea of Evil's method for delivering a world ripe for a saviour to Griffith.http://skullknight.net/encyclopedia/glossary/glossary.php#Carcus
Aight that was a mouth full, here's (some titties) Slan the only female member of the God Hand.
TheBloodyHeartland- 08-09-2007
Ive been into Berserk for years, its awsome, mainly because i hate all the cookie cutter shit.
recently, the store i get the manga from stopped selling it.
I was like, "YOU DIRTY MOTHAFUKA!"
BobTheDarkOne- 12-13-2007
Wait how the fuck did I miss this thread? Berserk's my favorite series. Seriously it makes the whole shonen genre look like shit. Its just too bad we only get 20 pages every 2 weeks, but for a manga this good i can forgive.
There's just one thing that bothers me about Casca.
It started out really nicely with her being the second best (then third) fighter of the hawks and all but now it's back to the usual "What a pain i must drag the useless girl around and protect her (maybe i should just rape her)."
K, maybe the raping part ain't that common.
Also for some reason I really like Isidro and Puck.
True Grave- 12-14-2007
I can tell you like Berserk by your avatar!
...unless thats Dan
Kroni- 01-07-2008
Can anyone tell me what I missed in volume 14? All I know is Caska and Guts are seperated, Guts gets his signature equiptment, and leaves toward some village where children are dissapearing. Is that all, or did I miss anything?
axl99- 01-07-2008
Didn't miss much The village with the missing children read more like a longass side story to me because it lasted part way through volume 16.
Damn book's at volume 33 and it still isn't finished. As much as I love Miura's work, he's gotta stop trying to drag things out.
At least he isn't like that artist who did Bastard!, practically releases a volume every 5 years or something like that effect.
BobTheDarkOne- 01-09-2008
Yeah they're kinda slow but they're nothing compared to YOSHIHIRO TOGASHI.
I mean during the ten years since HxH's debuts he's basically done five years of work. And he recently made a comeback after 2 years, but only did ten chapters before taking another break. Bullshiiiiiiitttttttt
And yeah at the pace Miura writes Berserk is gonna continue for at least another decade.
KIRBY 7- 01-12-2008
I gave up on Berserk once Guts & co. finally found that damn ship that would take them to that god damn Elf village.
The unthinkable happened...
The next 5 chapters are actually spent on that damn ship, & you know what?
THey're still not at that Elf village yet.
(Miura keeps dragging out the story. It's a sad shame considering how solid the golden age arc was.)
No Name- 02-24-2008
New chapter is out, but it doesn't really advance Griffith vs Gankisha. Sad, because I wanted to see Gankisha after 292. We're going to have to wait until march 14 for more.
