Cartoons used to be cool
I miss all the cartoons from the 80's & 90s. Thundercats, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Voltron,He-man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Pirates of Darkwater, X-men, Conan the adventurer, The Super mario bros., Darkwing duck, Chip n dales Rescue rangers, Mummies Alive, Talespin, Ghostbusters, She-ra, Inspector Gadget, etc. My favorite of all time was Jem and the Holograms http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMKT0gGEBJQ Jem is truly outrageous, truly truly truly outrageous. (A fantasy) Best damn intro song of all time. Yup, even better than ninja turtles. My favorite Jem song Love is doin' it TO ME http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxEROhPWj7M http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5302832671016148509&hl=en Who is he kissing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-azmV-IY3ow Twilight in Paris http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJs_EfOatNo Truly Outrageous (TV Version) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSShG4cjMIc It's pretty sad how a cartoon from the 80's has better music than most of the real music artist's out today. Do I even need to explain why Jem was the shit? She's hot! Jem fansite http://www.jemthingsandstuff.co.uk/ Cartoons from back in the day were actually animated. It was all drawn by hand. None of that gay CG crap. The drawing styles kicked ass. (They actually looked like people. Rather than some animu abortion.) Best of all. I love the music. Especially Jem's "Jem is adventure. The music is contagious. (Outrageous!)" The only cool (children's) cartoon I've seen lately was Kirby Right back at ya. Sure we have a lot of cool cartoons for older audiences like Venture Bros, & Boondocks, but one is a johnny quest parody & the other is social politically focused satire. What were your favorite cartoons from the 80's/90's?

Transformers was my favorite, followed by Mazinger and Grandizer I also liked Rocko's modern life Silver Hawks was pretty cool too Nowadays everything is crap about boys in highschool

KIRBY 7- 02-06-2008

Ah fuck, I forgot about DOUG http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMFKf1s6USM That shit was hilarious.

What about Batman, Spiderman and X-men those were good shows from the 90's. My favorite episode from batman was of course the clayface episode Idk if you guys ever heard of this show it was called teknoman it always aired on channel 9 heres the intro http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44TijpIKkac another show i use to watch aired on a spanish network about soccer players it was called Supercampeones i think another name for it is captain tsubasa. doug was a classic remember the patty song

ferlanga- 02-07-2008

Captain Tsubasa was quite popular back then

Transformers was awesome. Everything with Transformers in the title in the last couple decades has sucked(not counting games, if only because I haven't played any). The Boondocks is awesome, by the way, I love the commentary Aaron Mcgruder's made not just in the cartoon or comics, but in person too. http://youtube.com/watch?v=zIooBQm6S1M http://youtube.com/watch?v=u-5eX4f_ipc

EW GOD GROSS. I HATE how they move in that Jem cartoon. The animation is TOO GOOD and FLUIDY, and it creeps me out. Yeah, Doug was fantastic, it had such good writing. Then they made that wierd one on ABC in the 90's, that one was wierd. But yeah, thanks for that. I was wondering what that song was from. But don't let nostalgia get in the way. It stifles creativity and all that jazz. I actually hated a lot of the cartoons from the 80's, they were always boring to me. I guess they just lacked a sense of... I don't know... Urgency? I dunno. But yeas, you're so right, Kirby is a FANTASTIC show. EDIT: Hokuto no Ken was a great show from the 80s

Yeah today's kids cartoons are pretty pathetic. Most lack detail, I seriously think theyre just done in Flash. Same with a lot of the Adult Swim stuff.. since when was it a good idea that crappy, not funny, Flash-style cartoons (that you'd find on a site like Newgrounds) get national air time? I think the last impressive kids cartoon I've seen was X-Men. Even calling it a kids show is a bit of a stretch because I doubt mosts kids understood one of the main themes of discrimination and racism on a political level. The animation wasnt the best, but there was a bit of detail packed in most of the time.

Lisker- 02-08-2008

Uh, Visionnerz, I think you might be forgetting an adult swim classic... Assy Mcgee! See, he's a hardened cop sick of corruption in the city, and most importantly, and here's the seller, he's a TALKING ASS!!! AHH HAH HAH HAH HAHAH HAH HAH HAHAHAH HAHAHAH!!!!!!

Mecha Sonic- 02-08-2008

Hmm. To each his own, I guess. But there's still a lot of good shows, they are just harder to find, I guess? Like Camp Lazlo, that one is good. Also Chowder. Spongebob is pretty good, can be hit or miss sometimes. Also, I thought Ed, Edd, and Eddy was good.

EW GOD GROSS. I HATE how they move in that Jem cartoon. The animation is TOO GOOD and FLUIDY, and it creeps me out. It looks like a Don Bluth film. I like how Jem has actual art that looks good enough to be hung on a wall. But don't let nostalgia get in the way. It stifles creativity and all that jazz. It has nothing to do with nostalgia. I completely forgot about Jem. I just saw it again the other day, & I was impressed with how kick ass it still is. It's been 20 something years sense, & there's still nothing else on earth that was quite like Jem and the Holograms. I actually hated a lot of the cartoons from the 80's, they were always boring to me. I guess they just lacked a sense of... I don't know... Urgency? I dunno. What are you referring to by urgency? EDIT: Hokuto no Ken was a great show from the 80s Fist of the North star sucks ass. I fucking hate that show & it's dumbass story. But there's still a lot of good shows, they are just harder to find, I guess? Like Camp Lazlo, that one is good. Also Chowder. Spongebob is pretty good, can be hit or miss sometimes. Also, I thought Ed, Edd, and Eddy was good. Every single show you listed is drawn & animated like shit. The only decent modern cartoon I've seen was Avatar the last airbender. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=avatar+the+last+airbender&search_type=&search=Search I like the early 80's/90's cartoons, because it actually looked like it took effort to create these cartoons. Especially Batman & X-Men. I think the last impressive kids cartoon I've seen was X-Men. Even calling it a kids show is a bit of a stretch because I doubt mosts kids understood one of the main themes of discrimination and racism on a political level. You pretty much hit the nail as to why 80's/90's cartoons were better. They actually had relevant messages without being too condescending. (Boondocks, as political as it is. The show just gets way too overbearing with it's forced message.) Here's some other ILL ass cartoon's Captain Planet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oO41GWNePDI Gargoyles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygrEVnrg3Ic The Boondocks is awesome, by the way, I love the commentary Aaron Mcgruder's made not just in the cartoon or comics Boondocks is not an 80's/90's child's cartoon. It's a political show made for an older audience. The comic strip is from the 90's, but not the cartoon.

Dalemushashi- 02-08-2008

I love nineties American Cartoons. Mighty Max, Street Sharks, Highlander, The Batman Cartoon(Not that Batman beyond crap), Freakazoid, Mummies,Earth Worm Jim, Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, Mighty Ducks, Captain Planet,SWAT Cats,Rocko's Modern Life. I even used to watch VR Troopers and Beetle Borg's. I also love Legend's of The Hidden Temple, Pete and Pete and Are you afraid of the Dark? You guys are making me too Nostalgic. But yeah I wonder how all these awesome concepts went away for the new crap. Some of the newer Cartoon network stuff is pretty good like Courage the Cowardly dog and Ed Edd and Eddie though.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtrK0ytTR_Y I can't count the hours i've spent glued to the tv screen because of this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtrK0ytTR_Y I can't count the hours i've spent glued to the tv screen because of this. Sweet song. You ever see the movie with the genie and the lamp?

Lisker- 02-09-2008

Boondocks is not an 80's/90's child's cartoon. It's a political show made for an older audience. The comic strip is from the 90's, but not the cartoon.I know, I was just getting off topic. I'm an ass. Really? No one has anything to say about the fact that these days we have shows about talking asses? A show about a talking ass is the sort of thing you come up with as a joke. No one's supposed to be stupid enough to actually go through with it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJcJTs9NUl4 Klassic! I loved this shit! And then...it was said they wouldn't believe me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83xFZHDKnrY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8WYh8uz3pQ
