Sweet song. You ever see the movie with the genie and the lamp? Yeah, it sure brings back memories. I miss being a kid sometimes :( Also Hey Arnold was great but it had no closure what-so-ever.

Awww, you hate Hokuto that much? It's not that I hate it. I gave Hokuto many chances to engage me in it's world, setting, character & story. Unfortunately the show just fucking sucks. A lot of people try to make Hokuto sound like it's Fight Club. (Obviously not. Fight Club actually has an interesting plot.) The worst part of the show is the Steven Seagall syndrome. ("Ima walking god on earth! Nobody can touch me, BITCH") Nothing fazes Kenshiro, & it makes the show boring as hell. This wouldn't be a problem if the fights were actually entertaining. Too bad most fights consist of Kenshiro & some random mofo standing in one place trading blows with each other until Kenishiro reveals some contrived ass pressure point. (Seriously this mothafucka has a pressure point for every situation. He could probably cure Parkinson's if he wanted to.) I prefer Dragonball Z. That show is just as bad. (Even worse, sometimes they do nothing but stare at each other for 5 episodes in a row.) The reason why I prefer DBZ is because they actually fight. Goku may win every single time, but at least he gets his ass kicked first. The first two seasons of DBZ were actually decent. Wow, I'll have to check out this Jem cartoon more. It actually has some pretty good songs. Of couse, I wouldn't be caught dead watching it by anyone else... >_> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuLvdPi8O6c http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUy_2nbInVc Tsk tsk, a real man doesn't give a fuck about what other people think. There's nothing embarrassing about Jem and the Holograms imo. If you check up on the many Jem web communities & wikipedia even. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090461/board/thread/23869432 http://www.youtube.com/user/Twistedreams http://animatress.blogspot.com/2007/01/jem-and-holograms-and-sailor-moon.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jem_(TV_series) The show was originally designed to appeal to both girls and boys, with a mix of action/adventure,drama, music, and fashion. It was first slotted as a 6 minute cartoon that aired during Super Sunday (or "Super Saturday" depending on the market) along with the boy-oriented properties Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines, Robotix, and Inhumanoids. In spite of it being the only girl-oriented show in the lineup, Jem proved to be the most popular of the four. You'll see that the show was equally popular amongst boys & girls. (Despite the fact that the show was targeted toward a female audience.) I can see why too. The Jem show has shit loads of style, characterization, & story. I think it's pathetic how Jem, a cartoon from 20 something years ago happens to have a more compelling story than most video games, lol. It would probably even rival Killer 7 if Jem had more of a political statement. Psychologically speaking, Jem was just as deep, & almost as complex as K7's psychological plot. (Emir is Killer 7. Jem is just an illusion of glamour & fame.) i even watched jem even though that was a girl's cartoon and my dad was already wondering about me. I hated Jem when I was a kid. Back then, it was just that lame ass girl's show with the cool credits song. To me, Jem would be that random show that came on before Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now that I'm older, I can appreciate Jem for what it truly is. A complex story line about a set of characters trying to become whole. (The cast is full of fragmented personalities.) It's very similar to the main plot outline for the original Persona games. Whereas the original Persona games used a mid to late 90's Japanese pop culture backdrop. Jem goes for the Late 80's Glam rock theme. In either case the theme is really just dressing. The meat of Persona & Jem are the characters themselves, & their immense background stories. Basically what I'm saying is that the reason why shows like Jem still have a huge cult following even to this day can be mainly attributed to the writing. (And of course the style, & music.) People shouldn't feel ashamed to be into something that's actually good. Hell I'd wear a Jem shirt if I had one. I usually laugh at people who wear shirts with cartoon characters on them. (It's bad fashion sense, and it looks childish.) I'd make an exception for Jem, because that show had a shit load of style. Much of it's style can still be applied today with stunning results. (Except the big ass hair. Leave that shit to die in the 80's.) I rank Jem as part of my top 10 tv shows. The others are Rome, It's always sunny in Philadelphia, The Sopranos, IWGP, Ghost in the Shell SAC, GITS SAC II, Boondocks, Trick, Trick 2, & Trick 3. (Sure that's 11, just group Trick, Trick 2, & Trick 3, together as the same show.) Jem was the only children's show to make it to my top list, because IMO. It shouldn't be viewed as a mere kids show. Many of the plot themes & messages in Jem are still relevant to this day. i prefer to keep them in the past though. i watched an episode of thundercats the other day. it was beyond suck. how the fuck can mum-ra have such a stupid weakness? I pretty much only vouch for the godswomeness of Jem and the Holograms. Although there were other cartoons that had some pretty decent writing. (Batman, X-men, Gargoyles, Phantom 2029, etc.) You know what I hate? Dr. Claw/Cat. Mad Claw. I forget his name. The antagonist from Inspector Gadget. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKeE3saeguY Do you ever get to see what Mad claw looked like? (Damn that Inspector Gadget theme was off the hook. "D, duh, duh duh, Inspector gadget, Whoo hoo. GO! GADGET GO!") Aeon Flux & The Maxx were way ahead of their time, but I can't include them in this thread. (Like Boondocks they were targeted toward an older audience.) Shit, speaking of MTV toons "Clone High", was some hilarious ass shit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JOFJO46vog Ghandi: CLass clown JFK: School play boy Cleopatra: School slut

Way back then, I loved DBZ (tough I think Vegeta should been the one who defeated Kid Buu) Hopefully now theres budokai tenkaichi 2&3 games so theres no need to wait 3 episodes just to see an attack

I see what you mean. My fav part of Hokuto was when he went against Souther, as he almost lost that one. But I guess it's mostly because you're looking for a good plot. Hokuto is like Mortal Combat, in a sense. Blood and violence for the sake of blood and violence. Eh, some cartoon shirts are pretty cool. It really depends on the picture and how it's set up. I like wearing my DeathNote shirt, but wouldn't be caught dead in a shirt like Travis Touchdown's. Wait, hey... You said you shouldn't care what people think, but you're knocking cartoon shirts... Eh, whatever, I understand what you're saying, I'm just saying...

I almost... swear I've seen that Jem cartoon somewhere in the past. But the problem is, when I started watching cartoons my faves were Transformers and maybe The Real Ghostbusters? I recall these two the most. Thundercats annoyed me for some reason. I also liked Masters of the Universe. It's true that all of these shows employed really state of the art, well, hand drawn art. I mean, just looking at those Jem clips I start wondering, what the hell happened to talent? They must have really spend time animating those. And the dialogue is so much more sofisticated and it looks actually meaningful (which at the time was something to take for granted even in Transformers matters like honor and various social themes were approached like as if nothing - ah, good times of abundance) Maybe that's because at that time they thought that that work would pay off with their audience, or they thought that their audience would have the ability to think and have a critic spirit. Thank god I'm an 80's kid. Nowadays, TV chains treat kids like they're morons. My first contact with Dragonball comes from 1991 or somesuch. I was a big fan of it when I was a kid, and I still got a couple of volumes from the manga. Funny thing how people perceive DB nowadays. Must be because of the editing, the replacement of the soundtrack, et. in the US version. It's actually quite an old show, and it was practically the first anime I got into (along with St. Seya, Ranma, Dash! Kappei and City Hunter). Dragonball was just a funny adventure manga that started to increase its share of fighting as it went along, but the transition was so smooth I went along with the ride. I hear that in the US they started showing the series from the halfway point (DBZ). But in never took itself too seriously, and that's why it worked. When the US adaptation people tried to turn it into a serious badass martial arts thing, of course it looks stupid. I've only watched some clips of the US version on youtube, and it looks and sounds awful. That's why when it does get serious, it works. Because it was all a sort of a gag up till then. I mean just take the character's names right from the start and how can you take it seriously? A main girl named "panties"? Dragonball is cool. I still like it today. Hokuto No Ken has some good artwork (the manga), but I couldn't get into it simply because of reason already stated by TD. Kenshiro is invincible, and you can't even see what he does to instantly explode a guy's head. I mean, badassness alone doesn't make it good.

Probably my first anime show ( besides Speed Race, i HATED IT) was Sailor Moon :? and was more funny than some american cartoons. Saint Seiya was pretty funny also (tough I never understood how they hitted on each other). The Latin (Mexican) dub of DBZ and DB is the closest it'll ever get to the original. The voices sound cool (Freezer sounds dandy, whereas in the US dub he sounds gay), uses the original names and is pretty much uncensored (save for parts where Roshi touches Bulma's butt) Not that I was a kid when i watched it, but I loved Yu Yu Hakusho

Mecha Sonic- 02-12-2008

The Latin (Mexican) dub of DBZ and DB is the closest it'll ever get to the original. YES!!! When I was a kid, I had to watch the spanish dub of DB, and it sounded so much better. The voice actors actually had feeling.

I've only seen the U.S. version of Dragonball Z, so of course I think it completely fucking sucks. I've seen about 20 or 30 episodes of Hokuto No Ken so far (youtube) and so far most of the enemies seem to be no match for Kenshiro, but there were some times where the bad guys were actually doing pretty good against Ken, either because he was just -*test*-('")ing them or they had some power or ability he wasn't familiar with, and to be fair, it's not like you really ever expect the good guy to die. Ever. So if they want to just take the same concept and run with it, why not? Hell, once you've seen a fight before, you know what to expect anyway, what matters is how enjoyable it is to watch every time, and what I love about Hokuto No Ken's battles is some of the techniques Kenshiro employs in variuos fights, as well as how much of a badass he is when he finishes them off, because he doesn't just kill them instantly, he makes them suffer before they die. I love how he can kill them without them even realize it with one of his delayed killing techniques, letting them count down the seconds they have left to live. I don't think anyone's calling Hokuto No Ken perfect, but for right now I'm enjoying watching it, if at least how campy and kickass it is.

PhasE- 02-12-2008

My childhood classics were Spiderman and friends (friends being FireStar and IceMan) Mighty Max was cool also, I'm unsure about the ending though :? Nowadays all we get on TV is random rubbish, this is UK I'm talking about btw.

ferlanga- 02-12-2008

Theres a channel called "Jetix" which is 95% filled with Power Rangers and Fairly odd parents one after another, followed by commercials of power rangers merchandise (brainwashing FTW).
