True Grave- 11-06-2006

Cept you Mr. "I LOVE DAN SO MUCH MY RANK HAS TO BE THE HELLION! THANKS TOPDRUNKEE!"

BobTheDarkOne- 11-06-2006

I hate it :( Ever since I've had it Dan became my alter ego and he mentally molests me like Yugi and yami yugi in yugioh :(

Akura- 11-07-2006

BAHAHAHA. Oh, your neverending knowledge of yaoi and mindrape and anime that's been geared towards a younger audience makes me so amused.

BobTheDarkOne- 11-07-2006

I did spend my younger internet years on 4chan yknow? But most of It all happens when you do an innocent google image search and... I dunt wunnuh elaboraet. Also get on msn sometimes >:<

KIRBY 7- 12-04-2006

I loved anime back in the 80's early 90's. You know back in the days when anime artist actually learned how to draw. Back than anime had a reputation for being the devils work, full of grotesque gore & sensless sex. (The Ill repute was well deserved with animes such as Legend of the Overfiend,Golgo 13, Fist of the North star,etc..) I can't stand anime these days, because most of them can't write, & they're even worse at drawing. After Gungrave, Samurai Champloo, and Cromartie High, I've actually stopped paying attention to anime. Most of it now is udder crap, and follows a static stereotypical style now. (I love alliteration). Trinity Blood is the only real recent anime I'm following, but I've got the entire thing already downloaded, and I'm not really watching it. I'v eseen the first two episodes and thats it. It basically another version of Hellsing. Except you forgot to mention that Hellsing is actually cool. Trinity Blood sucks, I can't stand how the main character acts like some hardcore badass Alucard wannabe, but in the next second he acts like a Vash the Stampede reject. I understand that's suppose to be part of the humour, but it's not funny at all. That guy is just annoying. Gungrave is like a modern day version of Rosa of Versailes. Or at least it would've been, if only they had stayed on the mobster arc. (Being based on a videogame, they had no choice but to include the mis placed sci-fi & angsty Mika.) Cromartie High is funny as hell, even more so if you understand the Japanese pop culture references. You've got to wonder if the actual Japanese are as obsessed with anime as the rest of the world. Nah in Japan, Manga is more popular than anime. (With manga such as Uzumaki,Ichi the Killer,Golgo 13,Sky High, etc. I can see why.) It's kinda funny when I was in Japan I could just go to a manga store & I'll actually find something that I like. (Like Golgo 13 or LINDA project) In the U.s. the manga section usually looks as sorry as the anime section. (Most manga ported over to the us is just that senseless otaku crap.) Most anime these days are made for kids, but for some reason they get marketed to the adult audience during thier transition to the western audience. In japan anime like Lupin & Ghost in the Shell are usually popular. (I'm a fan of both as well. -I only like the GITS tv series, the movies are pretentious as hell.) EDIT: 6/24/08 Actually the GITS movies aren't that bad at all if you're willing to sit & consume all the philosophical references they throw at you. You never hear about Cowboy Bebop though. Hell I didn't even know what Cowboy Bebop was untill I saw it on cartoon network. But one thing that is the same is that Inuyasha is also popular in Japan. I remember when I moved out I was like yes no more Inuyasha, only to find out that Inuyasha is popular in the U.S. as well.

True Grave- 12-05-2006

You mentioned it in another post Topdrunkee, but I'm now interested in Speed Grapher. Yeah the new Hellsing OVA comes out this month and you better believe I want it. I'm just so pissed that the managa has yet to end here in the US. I have no idea whats the hold up with Dark Horse. Oh speakign of them, if you are a Gungrave nut like I am Dark Horse is releaseing both of the arts books for both Gungrave games in one book for $19.99. Now thats a dman cool Christmas gift! Yeah I can catch a few of the Japan culture jokes in Cromartie but it helps that I'm trying the manga as well. I've also started the Oldboy Manga, well since vol. 1 came with the 3-disc Oldbay set. And spekaing of the mad gory anime of yesteryear...Man I wish they'd bring back Mad Bull and put it on DVD. Talk about f-ed up gore! And it was a cop show? Excellent! Oh and have you seen Violence Jack? That was a huge favorite of mine back in the day.

TheBloodyHeartland- 08-08-2007

FUCK YES. finally, every where I go, evrybody says how badass Naruto and Inuyasha are. Why cant anime be good, like it used to be? Berserk, Devilman(not the 70s show lol), fist of the north star, cowboy bebop, for chrissakes..THOSE were badass, beleive it. Im glad i finally see people who dislike that made for babys crap. Grave, here in florida its even funnier to see hicks wearing leaf headbands. Recently, I watched Afro Samurai and Bleach. Afro Samurai was AWSOME.....not so much bleach. too cliche. Trinity blood reminds me of a cheap hellsing knock off. id like to see Guts of berserk or go up against inuyasha or naruto....How would that fight go down?

Kroni- 08-20-2007

Most of the anime now sucks, but there's still some good stuff. Claymore is basically Berserk Lite with boobs, it's entertaining. Code Geass is pretty cliche, but strangely addicting. Welcome to the NHK is godly. Black Lagoon is pure action bliss with a decent story in some parts. Baccano! is boring to me, but some people here might like it. Overall, most popular stuff in America is utter weeaboo garbage like Naruto or Inuyasha, with a bunch of wimpy mancunt protagonists. Back in the older days we had GAR shit like Berserk, which is thankfulky still going. What REALLY bothers me is the retarted wapanese fanboys that make normal fans look like faggots. I hate being associated with those retarted Japanophiles at the Persona 3 gamefaqs board. Manga's a bit better, though, it's got a more mature fanbase worldwide.

Visionnerz- 08-20-2007

I agree with a lot of stuff in this thread. I really don't get the recent flood of Japan-obsessed teens with bad taste. Anyway.. hopefully I can post some good news for old fans of anime here. Did any of you ever get to watch a gem from the '80s called Wings of Honneamise? It was Gainax/Bandai Visual's first project I think and one of my favorites. It's not really adult-themed compared to others at the time, but really more of the type of movie you can relax and absorb the visuals and music. It's being re-released on Sept. 11 for DVD, Blu-Ray, and HD DVD. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szF2ILxONJw <- Really good fan-made video http://www.bandaivisual.us/royal.html <- Re-release info page

True Grave- 08-21-2007

Just got Hellsing OVA vol.2 and Black Lagoon vol. 2. Really good stuff folks, if any of you are interested. Black Lagoon especially. The amount of violence and storytelling are quite refreshing. But, again, this is all that I'm interested in nowadays. No other animes seem worth it, or interesting. There is some crazy spy anime thing out call 0-009 or something, that looks interesting, especially with a mature rating, but I don't know if its worth it. Why can't they make a blade of the immortal anime?

BobTheDarkOne- 06-23-2008

Why can't they make a blade of the immortal anime? SURPRISE SURPRISE
