That doesn't sound good moving away from the original feeling. Even with Suda and Masafumi Takada involved, I may just skip this one(probably just download the soundtrack) and go with Siren New Translation for a decent horror fix. At least with that one they've managed to improve the original horror feeling. I'll be keeping an eye out for a trailer, though. Fallout 3 I'll still be getting. Aside from the original gameplay style, it was the setting and atmosphere I liked most. It looks like it'll retain the same atmosphere, just different gameplay. For some reason, no western developers makes those types of RPGs these days. I don't think the franchise will get totally fucked with like Shadowrun did.

* The storyline (still unrevealed mind you) may be more Western than Japanese for this installment of the series considering Suda's normal inspiration is american cinema & western pop music. This is just an idea of the guy who wrote the article. He thinks that FF4 will be westernized because he thinks that 51 does western inspired games, when actually the only true westernized title of suda is no more heroes (killer7 is more western than SC & FSR, but not that much). I don't think that tecmo would let someone to transform FF in a stupid not-scary western horror.

What about the 50's retro vibe? Fallout 3 seems to do a piss poor imitation of it. Fallout 3's interpretation of dark humour has I cringing as well. When I think of Fallout style dark humour. I think of beached whales being blown to pieces in the middle of the desert. (What's a whale doing in the middle of the desert?) I think of coercing a woman to fuck you as payment for rescuing her husband. (Well, that part falls more under the line of irony.) I think of people digging graves, only to be shot in the head & then they fall inside the grave that they were digging. I think of ripping the arms off a lilttle kid's richard nixon toy. (Seriously who the hell would want a doll of Richard Nixon? I just wonder when the George W. Bush dolls come rolling in. ) Hell when I think of dark humor. I think of Killer 7, SMT Nocturne. Nocturne had some hella funny dialogue. "Ah shit, that was close." "I couldn't hear him coming. He has no legs." (It was a convo about an Oni referring to a Jack O' Lantern.) I don't think about blowing some old woman's head off & talking to her severed head on a counter. That shit ain't funny. That's fucking corny, & juvenile. I mean sure it would be funny as hell in a game like No More Heroes, or Killer 7 where everything is over the top like a Tarrantino film. What's hilarious is the people behind FO 3 think their style of humour is similar to a Tarrantino flick. http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=41454&start=200 Quote: "I think it's more in the Tarantino fashion, which is to have some fun with it," says Howard. "It keeps it almost surreal. All these posters and the music are winking, but when the guys die, it's over-the-top. It's rendered really nicely, so on some level, it's believable - but it's ridiculous. That's the point." This is from the article, and apparently "Kill Bill" is the only Tarantino movie Bethsoft has seen. Unless they are hinting that they are getting at the "black humor" of Pulp Fiction, and Reservoir Dogs. But there is no way that they can touch the level of dark humor that is the "ear scene" in Reservoir Dogs, or the "I accidentally shot Marvin in the face" of Pulp Fiction. Or "the gimp" or anything like that. I think they are referring more to the Kill Bill style. Which I was never really a fan of. Quote: Anyway, Bethesda's dark humour so far is pretty far removed from Fallout's dark humour, which was: FEV - designed to be the saviour of humanity - becomes its biggest threat, against this thread only an atomic bomb - that almost destroyed humanity - can be used for a final solution<. That's dark irony, dark humour. Not decapitating old ladies. I dunno every time I read a press release of Fallout 3 it just seems to get more & more immature & crass sounding then I'd like it to be. The Fallout games were already obscene to start off with, but at least the games had good writing that justified why everything is so crazy in the Fallout world. FO 3 seems like it's just trying to shock people. You can actually blow kids into chunks in the first two Fallout games, and yet it never felt so classless like the old woman joke that guy just described. In fallout that only thing that came in my mind when I see a kid killed. (Kids only died, because I KILLED THEM MYSELF & I would throw grenades at their dead bodies HAHAHA.) was "War, War never changes." In FO we were fighting a new war after the nuclear fallout occurred. The war to survive another day. I'm not so sure that FO 3 could repeat that feel of hopelessness. The lack of provisions, lack of water, the lack of law, & order, etc. BTW the other day I was playing as my Goglo 13 character & I was attacked by Yakuza near New Reno. (New Reno seems to be a mixture of Chicago & my home town Vegas. There is an actual casino based city in Nevada called Reno, but the Reno in FO 2 looks more like Vegas/Chicago then anything else.) Shit was funny this Yakuza came up to me, and I made Golgo punch his fucking his eyes out. He immediately died from the shock. Another guy came at me & I kicked him in the head. He fainted. The rest of the Yakuza tried to run away, but I shot them all with my sniper rifle. Not a single one got away. I then went back to the yakuza who I kicked in the head, and shot him in the groin with my customized magnum. Damn, It felt like a typical day in the life of Golgo 13. Considering that I was walking to new Reno to film a new porn flick. (What's crazy is that I'm not making this up at all. You really can do everything that I just described in Fallout 2.) I'm sure that FO 3 will be fun, but I feel that it's going to be like P3/P4. Fun game, but it's not very faithful to the original titles. It seems to be a common trend these days. So I guess it's better off that I just get used to it. when actually the only true westernized title of suda is no more heroes (killer7 is more western than SC & FSR, but not that much). I don't think that tecmo would let someone to transform FF in a stupid not-scary western horror. K7 was more of a mixture between cultures. (Mostly East & West.) Which is probably why Killer 7 fared a bit better in Japan than NMH did. FSR is somewhat Western influenced, but only in a classical sense. FSR referenced Western shit that most contemporary Americans wouldn't know, nor care about. Yeah NMH is the only true Westernized title, & I was kinda hoping that style would be reserved for NMH only. Personally I think Shinji Mikami does the whole pointless parody thing much better than Suda. Mikami doesn't do any jokes that insults the gamer playing the game. He thinks that FF4 will be westernized because he thinks that 51 does western inspired games, when actually the only true westernized title of suda is no more heroes Makes sense. The problem here is that I've seen many American interviews where Suda claims that he only makes games for Western audiences now. Although a Japanese guy trying to Westernize something as Japanese as Fatal Frame is just plain ridiculous. Hopefully it's just a false alarm. I wouldn't mind Suda making games for Western audiences if only he would make games that are as intelligent as his Japanese only games like SC/FSR/MS. I mean shit peepz in Japan think that us Westerners are only into over the top gory games, FPS's & Madden. Seeing the way Suda operates when he makes games for Western audiences. It seems that he believes that as well. Saying that all Western people are only into dumbed down violent games is the same as saying that all Japanese are only into dating sims. The funny thing here is that in reality it's mostly women who play dating sims, but we in the West assume that it's some kind of gaming culture in japan. Kinda like how they (Japanese) assume that we only play games that require no brains.

Your fallout details make it sound really good, i always wanted to play fallout, but the isometric view and other bits repeleld me, but i know game had substance in setting and story. I hope that rape, social crisis and other bits will be in nextgen title, infact the intro ppl says in best revolution in RPG ever, you can read it, it starts form baby to infant and how you build your character is like fuck you hollywood in interactivity sense. Also fallout3 was supposed to have 200 endings but now its 500 fucking endings based on last crucial decisions of final cutscenes that are also interactive. bethesda is holding content , they will show it on e3, and we dont know fuck , i think they will blow the fuck out of gamers and it will be another interactive narrative revolution in gaming.

Visionnerz- 05-19-2008

The first two Fallout games are really good. Some other isometric view PC games that I really liked are Jagged Alliance 2, Planescape Torment, and Syndicate Wars.

In iso games i enjoyed sanitarium http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gL2957zF36w and desperados most. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oyvNFSYXn0 There is recent desperado sequel which is i failed to find anywhere http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoVTD1ixv_Q&feature=related and addon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seO8tEoDAuA&feature=related which looks rather cool

KIRBY 7- 05-20-2008

I heard a lot about Sanitarium. A lot of people say that youll love that game if you love Planescape torment, & Longest journey/dreamfall. Your fallout details make it sound really good, Tell me about it. FO is my favorite rpg series. (I'm still not sure what my 2nd best is. It's a toss up between Romancing Saga/Saga Frontier 1, & the Atelier/Ar Tonelico/Mana Khemia series.) I remember when I first installed fallout 2. I was about to turn the game off, because it seemed pretty boring. What got me hooked was when I saw this family get gunned down while I was walking through the desert. I was like shit. This game is intense. I just saw a man, his wife & his kid get their fucking brains blown apart. The first time you see that scene you just want to kick those soldier's asses, but you can't because they're armed to the teeth & donning power armour whereas you're just some tribal scrub. You never see anything that damn hopeless in a console game. The first two Fallout games are really good. Some other isometric view PC games that I really liked are Jagged Alliance 2, Planescape Torment, and Syndicate Wars. Jagged Alliance & Syndicate Wars were tactical strategy games. Although Jagged's fighting system was pretty damn similar to Fallout. (I still prefer fallout, because of the badass gun & death animations.) Note: My bad you said isometric view, not rpg. I don't like to admit this, but.... I fucking hate Planescape Torment. I own the game, but I always uninstall the game, because there's just way too much dialogue. (About as much as the Silver Case. SC can get away with it, because it's a text adv game.) PS T is one of the most fucking boring games I've ever played. Did I say play? I meant read. It's well written but I feel that the isometric interface is horrible for games that are built solely around its story. The problem with Planescape Torment is that it used an Isometric rpg interface, but the game itself played more like a dialogue heavy adventure game. As a result I have to read through all these 7 page novel length long conversations just to so I can buy me a fucking axe. Planescape torment had some of the most chilling plot twists I've ever seen in a game. My favorite twists are the revelations you hear when Morte tells you about what his true relationship with you is. (Let's just say that everybody got fucked over by the Nameless in his many past lifetimes.) I wish more games had a setting like planescape torment. The setting reminded me of old school megaten. (Which was the reason I tried out Torment in the first place. It wasn't your typical swords & dragons bs.) I hope that rape, social crisis and other bits will be in nextgen title, infact the intro ppl says in best revolution in RPG ever, you can read it, it starts form baby to infant and how you build your character is like fuck you hollywood in interactivity sense. Also fallout3 was supposed to have 200 endings but now its 500 fucking endings based on last crucial decisions of final cutscenes that are also interactive. That does sound good. In fact that sounds like the best rpg ever made. Too bad it's Bethesda. They talk a lot of shit. (Unfulfilled promises with both Morrowind & Oblivion.) They pretty much always make these big wild claims about the feat. in their games. Only to find out that they actually half assed everything. Bethesda's main priority is to create a seemingly deep game that appeals to console gaming audiences. (By deep I'm referring to play mechanics.) By appeal to console gamers, I mean that the game itself will be pretty shallow when compared to it's predecessor's. What you wrote up there does indeed sound impressive, but I'll only believe it when I see it. Part-nah, think back to Fable. That game was an overrated piece of shit. Yet it boasted similar features that FO 3 is claiming to have. So far I'm not a big fan of the art direction. Fallout 3 has this typical shiny "Bad ass" aesthetic most commonly associated with games of today. I'm sick & tired of that shit. Fallout was cool, because it was post apocalyptic cyber punk, but the art style of the game was modeled after the UFO craze of the 50's. Rather than typical noir like setting. i think they will blow the fuck out of gamers and it will be another interactive narrative revolution in gaming. Obviously, it's a bethesda game. http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=34770 They're good at marketing. (They're very politician like.) Honestly I don't give a fuck what other gamers may think. Everytime I do take the opinions of the common consensus seriously. I usually find out the hard way that the game that everybody is all raving about just isn't for me. (Save for a few rare cases such as san andreas, & RE4.) I heard Oblivion was good too, only to find out that the game wasn't really an rpg. The character interaction was shallow, and it felt more like GTA. In the sense that you don't really know you characters in the surrounding world. (GTA can get away with it, because it's not trying to be an RPG. Although GTA plays more like a proper RPG than most console rpgs.) I honestly wouldn't be too surprised if Fallout 3 ends up being as shallow (characterization wise) as Oblivion. Considering that the pipboy text I saw & the whole dark humour bit in one of those press releases were very Un Fallout like. (Fallout's comedy was more similar to Monty Python. Not that talking to a dead old ladies head bs that they came up with.) That's just the way Bethesda is though. They know where all the money is at. They typically make their "rpg" games for the console gamer crowd. I just wish they didn't use the Fallout license in order to make their Elder scrolls with guns game.

i pasted my topten list and oblivion is int hat list, best games in my life, graphics,story/quests{amazing social stories in quests}, and above all music. i agree to whatever you said, coz i know why enjoyed oblivion is or my own personal reason and that is oblivion for me was complete action adventure, infact moe adventure. I finished the game on level2, collecting/looting better weapons in warrior class and winning fights in 2 or 3 slashes only, thats why the world hated it specially elder lovers coz they made into superficial RPG i guess but more streamlined game mechanics for ppl like us. realtime combat unlike WoW, where hits are like slashing game was also good thing. behtesda made ppl like me happy and their fans displeased , and that is the only reason that i have faith in fallout, not because it is more fallout in gameplay but will be more oblivion like approach with fallout setting/ atmosphere. In other words i am willing ti play fallout adventure game with gameplay like fps shooting , coz fallout has guns not swords. ME was also like that , more shooter and less RPGish. All rpgs turn me off with character building countless hours, hats why l love realtimes streamlined RPGs with stuff catering both hardcores and ppl like me, who dont want to levelup the whole life.

Ehi, do you know that tecmo can go in bankrupt? They didn't payed the extra-work of their employees and someone denunced them or something like that. So it's not sure that the game is still coming out the 31 of july in japan.
