Hand In Killer7 - Adaptation (PAST:Roughs for fan comic)
Topdrunk Note: stickied because this comic is a separate project from the main KS7ndicate blog. Hello all. I'm in a tight spot. It's so tight it's not even funny. I'm at work and with no access to a scanner. How tight is that. So I went straight up and took pictures of craptacular quality with a cell phone of a few rough and really fast sketches I've done a few minutes ago in a few sheets of photocopy paper. KAEDE Smith without looking like a bad girl. The rest is randomness and a Heaven Smile seems to want the picture badly. Harman Smith carefully ignoring what ANGEL has to say, from "Angel". Dan Smith (rather crippled). The thing behind him, or next to it (whatever) is ANGEL again looking up after getting HIS wings blown off by Harman. And, saving the best for last, the distorted image of Emir, while his mother's on her SM attire, ready to "come onto him". All of this in genuine cell phone quality. I'm sorry for your eyes. I don't quite have a story-story yet, but I was thinking of a straight up adaptation, with a few other scenes that were alluded to in the game.

BobTheDarkOne- 09-06-2007

...Please have my children...

StarStabbedMoon- 09-06-2007

I really like the rough/sketchy quality of these drawings. I mean, sure, it's fitting considering these are rough sketches, but I hope that style still makes it into your final comic.

Fulgor- 09-07-2007

Those are some rad sketches You should join with Earthboundmother and Dcat and it will be a mindblowing comic, that would be more great than that devil's due crap

Kitano Smith- 09-07-2007

That would be a great idea, since our styles are so different, that would even be more fitting for a comic dealing with multiple faces, personas, sides, etc. Just like the game. A different artist for each chapter. EDIT /UPDATE: - Alright, I found a story. I'm going to adapt the data found in "Hand in Killer7", which I finished giving a thorough read just now - Yoshiko Ohier/ James Howell's translation/ piece. I'll contact them to let them know of my intention soon. By adapting the released game's story, I seriously risk making mistakes, since there are still to me too many details that don't add up or are missing too many pieces (to my mind). I think that "Hand in Killer7" has a lot of fascinating characters that were brushed over and/or cut out of the final game even though their presence can be felt, residually. Also, this version of the story is a lot clearer than the final version. maybe less intriguing somewhat (perhaps because of the lack of missing pieces), but much more confortable to work with. I'll just take cue from the character designs in the game but I'll make things less abstract and more literal (not always, since there's still a fair amount of spiritual/ psychological content going on). I'm thinking of a visual style more in tune with Silver Case, a little more sober perhaps. This far in the game, I think it will be an interesting exercise for fans to enjoy, and yes, much more respectful -not in terms of pure adherence to the source, but in terms of real respect of the source material than Devil's Due comic, that's for sure.

KIRBY 7- 09-08-2007

I've been slacking way too much lately. I'll try to build some password protected web space for the K7 comic tomorrow. Hopefully one of y'all (Dcat,Earthbound,Kitano, & hopefully Starstabbed) have some knowledge in how to use ftp. (I use Dreamweaver btw.) I was going to upload the k7 comic updates myself, but I don't really care about working on the site anymore. So it's best if I left control of the updates of the comic to y'all. This far in the game, I think it will be an interesting exercise for fans to enjoy, and yes, much more respectful -not in terms of pure adherence to the source, but in terms of real respect of the source material than Devil's Due comic, that's for sure. The problem with Devil's Due is that they tried to recreate the story from the game, but it's painfully obvious that they didn't really understand what was going on in the game at all. You should join with Earthboundmother and Dcat and it will be a mindblowing comic, that would be more great than that devil's due crap I was originally thinking of just posting one pic along with a chapter, but I wouldn't mind seeing a comic. Especially with Kitano's style. Your style just speaks KILLER7 to moi. Due to it's rough look. I like how Japanese you made Kaede look. The K7 cast usually come out looking way too gothic whenever I draw them. forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=472" target="_blank">http://killer7.6.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=472 A comic with the combined art of Kitano, Dcat, & Starstabbedmoon would make for some rather interesting range of emotions. I think that "Hand in Killer7" has a lot of fascinating characters that were brushed over and/or cut out of the final game even though their presence can be felt, residually. Yeah, that's a point that I've always been trying to get across with Hand In Killer 7. That most of the content in Hik7 is actually still in K7. You just need to read in between the lines, & think long & hard why some of the circumstances in K7 are the way they are. Here's a video that I made. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zr_Epnj1ASs Where I try to connect the Silver Case & Flower, Sun & Rain together with Killer 7. (I no longer answer youtube inquiries, because of the word limit. I prefer to answer all questions through an e-mail or at the k7sin forum. I'll just take cue from the character designs in the game but I'll make things less abstract and more literal (not always, since there's still a fair amount of spiritual/ psychological content going on). I'm thinking of a visual style more in tune with Silver Case, a little more sober perhaps. IMO Killer 7 sorta feels like an attempt at recreating the Silver Case plot line in an American setting. (Except the focus is on the K7 hitmen. Rather than the detectives of the Felonies 24 ward.) BTW if you dig SIlver Case's art style. Than you love these renditions of the Silver Case cast. forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=585" target="_blank">http://killer7.6.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=585 (He recaptured the dark eerie mood of Silver Case's art style to a tee.)

StarStabbedMoon- 09-09-2007

Alright, I found a story. I'm going to adapt the data found in "Hand in Killer7", which I finished giving a thorough read just now Wow, that's a great idea. I feel as though that could really give credence and attention to the book, which is probably dismissed far too much by most Killer7 fans anyways (outside K7 SINdicate of course). I really look forward to seeing what you come up with.

EarthboundMother- 09-09-2007

I have to say, your art is pretty Killer. And aptly so, lol. It even has that glorious ( and forgive me if this is an insult to you) Macross, 80's feel that many are forgetting. Oh, and btw, I have to agree with StarStabbed, as well...I'm not off-put by the 'rough' style, it's kind of great, actually. And those are pretty great 'crappy' cell-phone pictures. I can't tell you how many times I've nearly been caught writing on scrap paper at my cardiologist office job. Palpitations all over the place. The Hand idea is grand; stellar, even. And, I'm quite the fan of Howell, in general. His thesis on Killer7 really inspired my writing. The problem with Devil's Due is that they tried to recreate the story from the game, but it's painfully obvious that they didn't really understand what was going on in the game at all. I tell you true, that Devil's due nonsense was the bane of my existence when it was released. If something that crap-tacular can be released, I don't know what the 'h' I'm worried about. I think you should take the story and run with it; Personally, I never felt like I would be able to keep up with the politics displayed in Hand - I had to really step it up to even conceive of writing anything Killer7 at all. I was just stubborn, really. By adapting the released game's story, I seriously risk making mistakes, since there are still to me too many details that don't add up or are missing too many pieces (to my mind). In my story blog, I had the desires to fill in the blanks. I would love to see your take on the Hand data translation. This far in the game, I think it will be an interesting exercise for fans to enjoy, and yes, much more respectful -not in terms of pure adherence to the source, but in terms of real respect of the source material than Devil's Due comic, that's for sure. Respect goes a long way, you know. And it's also a guilty pleasure to see art that matches the content in that manner, as well. Godspeed. Hopefully one of y'all (Dcat,Earthbound,Kitano, & hopefully Starstabbed) have some knowledge in how to use ftp. (I use Dreamweaver btw.) Not at all, but that's what the internet is for, thankfully. I may know more than I think, since I took a web class, lol. You should join with Earthboundmother and Dcat and it will be a mindblowing comic, that would be more great than that devil's due crap I'd gladly collaborate with anyone who'd like an extra body in the writing seat, but I'd also be content to sit this one out and enjoy spectating. A good fall project is brewing for everyone, that's for sure. It'll be great. That would be a great idea, since our styles are so different, that would even be more fitting for a comic dealing with multiple faces, personas, sides, etc. Just like the game. A different artist for each chapter. This is a bit of a skewed post reply, true, but you know...if anyone ever feels like it...I would also collaborate on an original project with any of you guys. You're all pretty great, IMO. You know...if anyone's bored : )

Jedilink- 09-09-2007

Real slick man. Very nice stuff. :)

Kitano Smith- 09-11-2007

I don't mind a collaborative effort, but it would mean a lot more work than my original intention to go solo on the HIK7 adaptation (more or less original intention, at any rate). It's nothing against nobody, it's just that those things are usually hard in terms of having to concentrate efforts and get everything flow in sinc with each other. That's the complicated part due to differences in geography and time. BTW if you dig SIlver Case's art style. Than you love these renditions of the Silver Case cast. forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=585" target="_blank">http://killer7.6.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=585 (He recaptured the dark eerie mood of Silver Case's art style to a tee.) Now, that fan art for SC is something else. Is that fan art? I could never reach something like that, at least never for a comic, which would be a sight to behold. But it's incredible. Actually, that kind of artwork is very suitable for an illustrated novel, or "light novel", along with erthboundmother's writing. That's the kind of artwork I dig the most, yeah. It's also close to the guy who did the chara designs for Blood the Last Vampire movie. It's Japanese, but with a touch of European/ French Bande Dessineé. For the HIK7 adaptation, I'll try to fit in those stories from other character's perspectives. MacAllister and "Jacob's Checkbox". Jaco's report seems awfully crucial to the whole plot. Actually, they practically are the plot. The Lynchian parts of the game, I'll try to fit them in a s well. Garcian's trailehouse = Garcian's mind and also Harman's trailerhouse, in the physical world, perhaps?; Forbidden Room = part of his mind that controls the rest of it until a certain point in time, and Basement = the knowledge of Kun Lan's confinement ward, implanted in Garcian's mind by Jaco's (Jacob's?) tapes. Is Emir a reencarnation of Dimitri? It really appears so, if you ask me. Dimitri's disappearance coinciding with Emir's birth and the three eye trait they both share... Emir seems to have murdered the authors of the Yakumo Cabinet Policy, the Union7 at the Union Hotel. Shortly thereafter, the Second Smith Syndicate was born, called the Killer7. Were the original assassins protecting the Union7's secret meeting? Or were thay just 7 guys picked at random and absorbed by Harman after the incident? Hmm, I like the latter. I recall Topdrunkee thy ILLnifique mention that the Smith assassins were killed in a hotel in Paris. In HIK7, the Second Smith Syndicate was in fact almost decimated by a woman in southern France (was this Samantha? Her last name was SITBON, that's a French name, and Samantha looks like a French maid), but this happened after the 7 were already actually one person. But this was in 1990, 33 years after the KILLER7 was born. Harman crippleness was Dan's handiwork later I think. Those crazy fucks... Fight Club anyone? LOL. Emir seems to have betrayed the Yakumo then. Maybe that explains the fact that he was nearly dead after the killings - he tried to kill himself by shooting his brains out (this bit I assume from the game) out of guilt for his betrayal. Or maybe he was instructed to do so? Or maybe he was just wounded from the battle... Anyway, that moment, what i think it happened was that Emir actually died. And got absorbed by Harman Smith (don't know exactly in which point in time) and taken in by Harman as Dimitri's successor. Two years later in 1957. The persona named Emir retained his personality of course, and also his remorse. So the persona named Emir repressed its own memories and invented a new identity, Garcian Smith, on its own. This Garcian Smith individual wants Harman Smith to be his master and wants himself to be loyal, subdued and obedient, like a samurai: all the opposite of Emir. Even Samantha starts looking like a geisha, pale skin and very polite. The individual persona Harman Smith appreciates this and takes control of the body. He then creates the KILLER7, after recovering the rest of the assassins' bodies and absorbing them all. Taking HIK7 as a source, the one who killed Harman (and Kun Lan) in Coburn was probably Dimitri. That man was named Harman Deltahead. (Harman Smith would be the man according to the game, but the game changed a lot in this respect). But since I believe that Emir is Dimitri reincarnate, it's not that of a difference in terms of who killed Harman, the principal. Deltahead or not. (In the game, as far as i know, every Harman is Harman Smith, or just Harman...) Garcian became a "cleaner" and gained the ability to resurrect after Dan Smith's demise at the hands of Curtis Blackburn. Why at this point? I still don't know. I'll try to figure out the logic behind this. The moment/year Emir was found by Harman Smith, Harman Deltahead and Kun Lan were resurrected. This time as opposing forces that appeared as soon as Emir, their antagonist, was suppressed and became a pawn for both of them to play with. It seems like nature trying to adjust itself. You push one side, it comes out from the other. Now a triangle of forces were created, two opposing sides and their cannonball to be thrown one way or another, destroying one or the other. Or both, in the end. All of the above may seems already obvious to most of you but what I'm really doing is to try and break down the data into something comprehensible. Sorry about that, but well...

EarthboundMother- 09-11-2007

All of the above may seems already obvious to most of you but what I'm really doing is to try and break down the data into something comprehensible. Sorry about that, but well... I think you have a really firm handle on all that you're about to translate into your story. My stuff is absolutely nothing like it, but I kind of like that. I'm into character development as a pet hobby, and multiple views on everything I'm interested in. I can't wait to see how your take comes out. It'll be great; I'll gladly link it to my blogger, as well, if you like. Oh, btw; you can also aptly focus your images onto paper; I'm only comfortable using words to sculpt, at this point. Good for you. Keep it up!

KIRBY 7- 09-12-2007

I think you should take the story and run with it; Personally, I never felt like I would be able to keep up with the politics displayed in Hand - I had to really step it up to even conceive of writing anything Killer7 at all. I was just stubborn, really. Hand in Killer 7 just confirms my political perspective of the story. (I created Killer 7 SINdicate a month before the HIK 7 translation was ever created.) The political portion of HIk7 is only two pages long. The rest of the book contains background information about events that were originally supposed to be in the game. (This was mostly character development.) My original theories were conceived from the Killer 7 game itself. (Travis & Iwazaru seem to reference a lot of real world political events through their monologues. Most of the cut scenes are actually physical metaphors of current events. The K7 SIN poster "Punisher" has written some File 7 posts forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=610" target="_blank">http://killer7.6.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=610 forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=615" target="_blank">http://killer7.6.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=615 forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=620" target="_blank">http://killer7.6.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=620 detailing his thoughts about certain metaphors that he has discerned.) Most of what you read from the Killer 7 plot faq is not official at all. They are merely a guideline of what the plot was about. I actually am writing a political plot line for a fan made digital comic called "Killer 7 SINdrome" that I'm making through rpgmaker, I'll upload some vids at a later date. I think it's best that I operate as merely the middle man who provides you all with the web space to spread your work around. If I were to interfere with your story for the sake of political accuracy or whatever. It would mean that I would have to change & alter certain aspects of your story. To keep inline with the political plot line that I've envisioned. For one thing I would've kept Linda Vermilion alive as I see her as a valuable asset for the "Secret Japanese members" plot line. http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killer_7 Quote: 合衆国政府に雇われた情報屋としては不自然な面がある。 黒のコートの下は素肌に近い大胆な服装の美女。劇中一度しか登場せず、その行動には謎が多い。 Linda Vermilion There is an unnatural aspect to the informer. Her speech and behavior denies the United States national interest and the dependence of the government, yet she is also employed by the United States government. This excerpt from Japan's K7 wiki page implies that Linda is actually an agent for a foreign government. I would also have implemented Love Wilcox a bit more. Since her sole role in Killer 7 was to spread propaganda through the modern media. It would be interesting IMO to expand Love's role as a character who creates lies as a mask of truth. I also would've never resurrected Mills. To moi, that just cheapens his death. Since he died the exact way that he wanted. (In a blaze of fire, like the movies.) IMO only Harman Smith reincarnates. (Harman would in turn be reincarnated with the 7 Smiths intact.) Kun Lan himself is just a living embodiment of a revolutionary ideal that originated from a man who was once known as Kun Lan. The whole reincarnation concept is an alien assertion from the plot faq. While reincarnation does indeed happen in Killer 7. I feel that there are certain rules for how it occurs within the world of K7. That answer lies within Suda 51's Silver Case & FSR. (Killer 7 borrows a lot of ideas that were originally implemented in those two games. The Bloody heartland forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=674" target="_blank">http://killer7.6.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=674 is the only other member of K7 SIN who has also noticed this similarity.) It's not that the Killer 7 reincarnate. The Killer 7, or should I say Harman Smith. Are actually transmigrating his/their souls into different stock bodies, because it is implied that Harman has a silver eye of immortality. (There's more than one Harman Smith, because there actually is more than one Harman Smith, but they all originated from the same source. The force of energy/entity who we have labeled as "Harman Smith".) There are countless other aspects of your story that I would change, if I were to have a hand in it. (The changes I would make would be more in tune with the Silver Case plot line.) To the point that it wouldn't be your story anymore. I also feel that our writing styles would clash. Your writing has a sense of professionalism & sophistication. For one thing you have perfect grammar. At least when compared to I. I can actually imagine your work being written as a book. I have no intention of adding in my flavour to the plot line that you have already established. My writing style is more suited for a comic book or a video game. It's way too wild & fragmented. (My dialogue usually consists of pop culture references, indirect speech, goofy one liners, & rhetorical questions.) I'll make a forum post later with some examples of my writing style. (As it's quite a lengthy read with some of the dialogue that I've written for the digital comic. BTW the digital comic uses images from Silver Case, Policenauts, Snatcher & Shadowrun.)

KIRBY 7- 09-12-2007

About the HIK 7 comic. Could you at least send in a beta page whenever you get the chance. So I can actually upload your comic to this page? http://killer7.3dactionplanet.gamespy.com/Killers7ndicate/index.htm Now, that fan art for SC is something else. Is that fan art? It's actually fan art for "Kill the Past" Which happens to be Silver Case, Flower Sun & Rain, & their spiritual cousin "Killer 7" Yes it's fan art. (Though I have a sneaking suspicion that he's the actual game artist. Since it looks too much like the Silver Case.) The artist owns one of the most popular Kill the Past (Silver Case, FSR, K7 & Moonlight Syndrome) related sites on the web. Dead End Times Online http://beast.jpn.org/ Here's another lovely pic that he made depicting one of the new characters from Silver Case 25 Ward. It's also close to the guy who did the chara designs for Blood the Last Vampire movie. That movie sucks ass. GHM also did a video game adaption of the Blood tv series. For the HIK7 adaptation, I'll try to fit in those stories from other character's perspectives. MacAllister and "Jacob's Checkbox". Jaco's report seems awfully crucial to the whole plot. Macalister is from the same family as Ed from Flower, Sun & Rain. Jaco's report seems to have originally been intended to be the Killer 7 equivalent of Tokio Morishima's Placebo reports from the Silver Case. Silver Case was divided between two different play styles. The main story where you control a sole survivor of the republic peace force.(They were killed by Uehara Kamui) Who has been newly transfered to 24 ward felonies investigation bureau. As he works along side Tetsugoro, Sumio & the rest of the Felonies investigation crew. The other play style has you controlling a reporter named Tokio Morishima, who uncovers background story & differing pov through the use of contacts & e-mails. For K7 I believe that the game was originally supposed to be segregated between the hitmen, Killer 7 (The main story) & the government "Jaco checkbox" (Background story) Suda 51 has confirmed himself the similarities between SC & K7. http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=13578 I recall Topdrunkee thy ILLnifique mention that the Smith assassins were killed in a hotel in Paris The Paris murders was the original incident where 7 random people with the surname Smith were killed by a kid named Emir Parkreiner. The game combined the Union hotel & Paris incident together. As a result the game got way more confusing than it needed to be, because now we have no idea whether or not they actually were just 7 random people or if they were the the actual Killer 7. (I've no doubt in my mind that Dan, Kevin, & Mask are members of the real Killer 7. Who knows about the others though.) In HIK7, the Second Smith Syndicate was in fact almost decimated by a woman in southern France (was this Samantha? Her last name was SITBON, that's a French name, and Samantha looks like a French maid), I never noticed that. If you read this entry closely... ... 1990 In southern France, the Killer7 took on a mission to dissolve a secret meeting that was scheduled to be held at a first- class resort hotel. There, they confronted large numbers of "Rollout Heaven Smiles." The Killer7 decimated the Heaven Smiles, but an unknown woman appeared in front of them. She killed one persona after another; she nearly annihilated the Second Smith Syndicate. In the end, though, Harman Smith successfully cut her down. The personae were so heavily damaged, it took Garcian Smith ten years to resurrect all of them. During this time, the activity of the Second Smith Syndicate was suspended. SAMANTHA SITBON began serving Harman Smith. In the absence of the other personae, she took work as a persona of the Killer7. It actually implies that it was in fact Samantha Sitbon who almost killed the Killer 7. Anyway, that moment, what i think it happened was that Emir actually died. And got absorbed by Harman Smith (don't know exactly in which point in time) and taken in by Harman as Dimitri's successor. I doubt that. Nobody knows who or what Dimitri is & why he has the same surname as Greg Nightmare. Even in Japan nobody has a clue of who he's supposed to be. The only thing that is known is that Dimitri is the origin of Harman's "God killer" powers. (HArman attained them after he killed Dimitri. IMO, Dimitri Nightmare was originally supposed to be Sundace Shot from the Silver Case & Flower Sun & Rain. Emir Parkreiner isn't a persona. He's the original host. However Emir Parkreiner & Garcian Smith are not his real name. I believe that the person who we know as Emir Parkreiner. Never died in the first place. If you listen closely to the fbi tapes. http://www.killer7.3dactionplanet.gamespy.com/fbi.htm You get the impression that the United States killed off some random kids family. (The kid was originally an orphan, and it is implied that his parents weren't actually his real parents.) With all traces of the kids identity having been erased. (All his known relatives are dead.) The government in question decided to forge an indentity for the kid & gave him the indentity of a man who died during WWII, Emir Parkreiner. Emir was than enrolled into Coburn Elementary. A facility that secretly breeds government assassins & politicians. But hey feel free to use what you've already surmised about the story from both the game & Hik7. It sounds like an interesting read. Especially if it were in comic form. At least your theories would finally give Dimitri a purpose. EDIT: Actually you're right about Emir being a reincarnation of Nightmare. When you read the HIK7 time line closely you tend to notice that the consciousness known as Dimitri disappears when ever Emir Parkreiner is around. Thanks I never saw that before. Two years later in 1957. The persona named Emir retained his personality of course, and also his remorse. So the persona named Emir repressed its own memories and invented a new identity, Garcian Smith, on its own. The boy referred to as Emir is not a persona. That's his original identity. Garcian Smith is a persona of Harman Smith. (Garcian was the first persona of Harman Smith.) Garcian is the sole Persona that grants Emir Parkreiner the ability to tap into Harman Smith's supernatural like "Multifoliate Personae Phenomenon" ability. Emir Parkreiner without Garcian Smith would be just a normal lunatic with Dissociative identity disorder. (As can be seen in the final mission Target Lion. Emir can no longer morph into the Smiths, because he no longer believes that he is Garcian Smith. The persona that granted Emir his Killer 7 abilities in the first place.) But since I believe that Emir is Dimitri reincarnate, it's not that of a difference in terms of who killed Harman, the principal. Deltahead or not. (In the game, as far as i know, every Harman is Harman Smith, or just Harman...) Every Harman actually is Harman Smith, but they all originated from the same source. The force of energy/entity who we have labeled as "Harman Smith". Judging from SC & the FSR ending http://www.killer7.3dactionplanet.gamespy.com/FSRSUNDANCE.wmv During FSR we find out that we were actually controlling a different Sumio for each day that we stayed at Hotel FSR. Sundance Shot masqueraded as one of the Sumio's in order to evade the international police. If you've played SC & FSR. We would prolly assume that Harman has a silver eye of immortality. (They don't actually grant immortality. They just allow you the ability to transfer parts of your consciousness to other bodies & overtake the mind of your host with your own.)

Kitano Smith- 09-12-2007

That movie sucks ass. That's common knowledge, but the character designer, Katsuya Terada is awesome. Now there's something I noticed about the whole "Jaco's Report". It is: "JACO'S REPORT" ORIGINAL TEXT WRITTEN BY MASAHI OOKA I'm not sure who this Masahi Ooka is, but it appears to me that "Jaco's Report" is a mini novelization based on Killer7 that was included in HIK7 as a sort of "Expanded Universe" piece, and I dare say it's not necessarily what Suda51 envisioned. That would be the Timeline. Except for the Second Smith Syndicate decimation incident in France, -which differs drastically from the Timeline in Jaco's report- everything matches. The character profiles pieces in the book according to chapters, those seem to be purely based upon the released game. I'm primarily focusing on the timeline, where there is no mention of Emir killing the Killer7 in France. I mean, why would Emir kill the Killer7? Wasn't Emir already the host body of the Killer7 by this time? Another issue is with Kess Bloodysunday. Kess bloodysunday was killed by Emir in the game, and that's also the description in HIK7 in the character profile section. In the timeline, it just says he was a target of the Killer7. Okay, Emir is the Killer7, so I would made sense, but when he killed Bloodysunday, Bloodysunday saw a "monster with 3 eyes". This neatly describes Emir. But Emir wasn't active by this time, according to the timeline, so I guess that either Emir awakened temporarily during this mission in Spain, or the "3 eyed monster" bit is purely from the released game. So in the game, Kess Bloodysunday was some target of Emir, back when Emir was on a killing spree, or some other time before Emir killed Harman. Did Kess Bloodysunday see Emir Parkreiner after getting blinded? It appears that Kess got his eyes maimed somehow... Maybe after getting blinded he could see the real monster behind the Killer7 facade. This is just speculation... The persona that granted Emir his Killer 7 abilities in the first place.) Yes, you're right. It was just a matter of semantics here. I wasn't really intending to refer to Emir as a persona, but as the actual person. It was my mistake. I think you should take the story and run with it; Personally, I never felt like I would be able to keep up with the politics displayed in Hand - I had to really step it up to even conceive of writing anything Killer7 at all. I was just stubborn, really. The politics of the game in my opinion are rather simplified, actually, in relation to the real world political events. In the game, everyone speaks double-talk and metaphorically and everything is fragmented, which caused me to be a bit confused as well at first. That Mahjong table piece was really great. It looks like it could belong to a Takashi Miike movie. The essence is all there, so why keep it complicated? The meeting is just a formality, the real decisions were already taken, so why should they waste time talking about it? Even if that was a real, decisive, political meeting, we don't need to watch them talk politics, because in the end what both sides really want is to kill each other. Just like when you're trying to get that hot woman to your bed. The end result is the same, and you both know what you want, but even knowning that, you still have to do that friggin useless talking that you'll both forget about in a few hours (optimistically :P). One thing I'd like to make clear about this piece of fiction, is that I'm also a character development whore, so I'm not going to coldly re-describe the events in this book, I just need to get a firm handle on the events in order not to make mistakes later on. Because K7 has a lot of plot -so much that it's practically unavoidable- I predict that the plot will have to play a major part in the events. The plot will have to practically run parallel to the characters, their motivations, etc. I also have a story concept for a project I named "Lepidoptera" than I will try to get published, and it's also heavy on geo-politics, although the real meat of the story is the different characters and their motivations. Namely, a single female character that gets drawn into the middle of a conflict. The challenge here is just to avoid turning the story into an epic, because I need to focus it on a single character. It's the same problem with Killer7 - There are too many characters and factions, but I need to center the story mainly in one perspective. Do you guys think that focusing on the Killer7 itself is a good way to go? If I tell the story through someone whose mind is warped and fucked up, the whole story and it's appearance will be necessarily warped (like the game). This is why I'm thinking of a multiple character approach, and also a "neutral" character approach, which I will need to describe Kun Lan and Harman Smith and Dimitri Nightmare, for example. These people aren't people, they're forces. I'm interested also in Matsuken, this character seems to have the traits of a young, ambitious person who's initially frustrated by the priority given to the elderly, no matter how incompetent they are. This is a very Japanese thing, the prority goes to the elderly because they're the elderly. It doesn't matter how good you young people are, you're never gonna be anybody in a chain of command as long as you're young. But anyway, I'll write the thing as go along. This multiple perspective deal is a pain in the ass if get to loyal to it. < 1775 > Harman Deltahead killed Jim Townsend, head of the J. T. Survey Company. Harman was revered as one of the world's best killers. He formed the FIRST SMITH SYNDICATE and changed his name to "HARMAN SMITH." Harman Smith was feared globally as one of the most horrific assassins. Dimitri was the first member of the First Smith Syndicate; he was Harman's first victim, and the origin of Harman Smith's "God Killer" powers. Dimitri was believed by others to be Harman Smith's bodyguard, and inspired fear equal to that inspired by Harman Smith. This was the start of Harman's multiple personalities. This is interesting, if Dimitri and Emir are two generations of the same being, then Emir was in his past life the origin of Harman Smith's God-Killer powers... I can't really confirm this, but is there any chance that the origin of Harman's multifoliate personae phenomenon is Dimitri? Dimitri looks like, y'know, not human. A monster that can't be killed. So what would be the effect to killing such a thing? Maybe it would force its way inside you. Somewhere in HIK7 Dimitri is described as being a "shadow that entered into Harman". Maybe Dimitri wasn't corporeal in the first place. Maybe Dimitri's ghost transferred itself into Harman forcefully, creating in fact two people living in the same body. < 1774 > Harman Deltahead left for a mission that brought him to the Union Hotel. On the rooftop, he met a man named DIMITRI, whose nickname was "Three Eyes." The neighbor with the angelic smile--Kun Lan--appeared in front of Harman Deltahead. Kun Lan became the medium through which "Three Eyes" spoke. Harman and Kun Lan quickly became close friends. They met for tea regularly. If Kun Lan was Dimitri's medium to speak with Harman, maybe Kun Lan was trying to get Harman to be his puppet by introducing him to an instrument of his. In other words, Kun Lan was already trying to get the upper hand on Harman by "owning" him through Dimitri, and manipulate Harman. < 1778 > Harman Smith unexpectedly quit professional assassination. He disappeared from society and history. Dimitri was rejected by the core persona. The core persona separated from Harman Smith and became Harman Deltahead, once more. Later, through some spiritual meditation, maybe Harman managed to get rid of Dimitri, like some sort of "evil" that he exorcised on his own. I assume Harman effectively lost his God-Killer powers and multifoliate personae thing. Now look at this: < 1955 > The Union 7 attended a secret meeting at the Union Hotel, which was called "the Yakumo Secret Meeting." They were killed by a serial murderer, though the whole incident was hushed up. The affair was called "Killer7." On the rooftop of the Union Hotel, Harman Smith met a dying boy with three eyes. The boy was Emir Parkreiner. Harman Deltahead and Kun Lan resurrected. < 1957 > The SECOND SMITH SYNDICATE was formed with seven personae. They were called "KILLER7". Have you noticed that Harman only formed either the FIRST SMITH SYNDICATE and the SECOND SMITH SYNDICATE after Harman met either Dimitri or Emir in that same rooftop? Without Dimitri or Emir, Harman is just a (1) guy. Aren't we looking at the multifoliate personae phenomenon from the wrong angle?

Hand in Killer 7 just confirms my political perspective of the story. (I created Killer 7 SINdicate a month before the HIK 7 translation was ever created.) The political portion of HIk7 is only two pages long. The rest of the book contains background information about events that were originally supposed to be in the game. I think I can digest two pages, I don't know what I'm afraid of, politically speaking. Not everyone can be Jon Stewart; I guess I just want to avoid looking like a dumbass. Worse things have happened. Oh, and grats on your site, it really is remarkable. Ridiculously comprehensive and thoroughly someplace one can learn and be entertained for eons. I've never read Hand. I guess I just had so much to internalize with the game and Howell's plot analysis, that I was intimidated by handling more. I probably should read the new translation, tho. I actually am writing a political plot line for a fan made digital comic called "Killer 7 SINdrome" that I'm making through rpgmaker, I'll upload some vids at a later date. RpgMaker is a cruel mistress, lol. But I can't wait to see what you've got. I think it's best that I operate as merely the middle man who provides you all with the web space to spread your work around. That's cool. I always need a good middle man, lol. I'm a bit of a control nut, anyway, if I've already started a project; I love other voices in collaborative events, but if I'm trying to keep a continuity I've developed going, it's like tug of war when you're the only one in the grease pit. Things get messy; it's better just to let go. I feel like I'm writing for Homicide:Life on the Street, and you'd be writing 'Law & Order' (compliment, btw). Homicide had plenty of street cred, but L&O, though by the same creators, was clearly the brainiac child with the red tape and the library card. I love both series, but there's a case study for ya. I would've kept Linda Vermilion alive as I see her as a valuable asset for the "Secret Japanese members" plot line. I would also have implemented Love Wilcox a bit more. Since her sole role in Killer 7 was to spread propaganda through the modern media. I also would've never resurrected Mills. To moi, that just cheapens his death. Since he died the exact way that he wanted. (In a blaze of fire, like the movies.) I didn't want to offend anyone with neglecting certain characters, who are obviously in the game/Hand and obviously mean something. I feel like I'm feeding the birds and the sparrows ( i.e. sub characters) are getting tromped on by the crows (i.e. main characters), here. But, instead of buying more bread, I just throw the wads of wheat really hard at the big birds, and the sparrows rejoice, getting ready for their chance to dine. (Feeling wordy tonight, everybody join me, won't you? 8) ) Here's the thing about Mills: I love his character; to me, he was the one real friend Garcian had, the one source of levity and humanity he could actually talk to, not have running around as a mentor or a persona. He was flesh and blood, and sitting next to him. I was partially being selfish when I had the inkling he was going to be involved in the blog; I've lost a lot of good things in my life, and reclaimed them in other, variant forms. It wasn't easy, but it was a matter of perspective. In respect for Mills' wish to remain dead, having claimed his ultimate reward, John Woo-Hard boiled style, he has a 'Do-not-Raise' order in my plot line. He actually remains physically deceased. His honor is maintained. Being a selfish, crafty writer, I wanted to use a familiar character as a computer/hologram system who could explain shit for me to other characters. I don't know when the computer system became Mills...it just happened. Plus, I couldn't stand the idea of Emir being alone for all those years, all new relationships aside; When someone who enters your life doesn't know, hasn't shared a poignant experience with you, it literally creates a different world for you. You become the owner of past worlds that don't have to exist in your new one. Having been gutted of every last relationship he had in the world, I thought of that very sad moment in the game where 'Garcian' realizes he is utterly alone. I haven't even been able to play the game twice because of it. That's just me being a wuss, though. There are countless other aspects of your story that I would change, if I were to have a hand in it. That's why I love to read multiple people's takes on something I appreciate; everyone views something differently, even if they share the same belief system, the same political view - they would still write characters and story lines differently. I have the feeling you really have something to say in whatever you'd write, and that you should absolutely knock some writing projects out of the park; they would be stellar. Oh, and my writing style clashes with everybody. There are legions of writers better than me, who can write sustinas and jot lines in definition guidelines from grammar books I would throw around; but here's the thing - I envy the chaos. Your wilder style would so perfectly offset a comic or graphic novel, I feel. My style would be a different beast if directed upon the same; you sacrifice words when you do comics, you sacrifice images when you do books. The S7ndicate blog is definitely in book style. And thanks, I try to be ridiculously pro and sophisticated. It isn't always easy, lol. But I so appreciate the comment, as it brings hope some effort is paying off and bleeding through. The perfect grammar you humble me with, relating it to my work, is in part, thanks to Word (which I'm mad at right now, since my glossary is now full and I can't teach it any more ) and double-checking my brains out to the point that I'll post the same blog chapter five times to fix two sentences; the 'mad skills' are also in another part due to the fact that I read my first Thesaurus end to end so many times, the only reason it's still together is that I have lots of tape and rubber bands. Then I moved on to dictionaries. I assimilate sentence structures; I'm the Harman of prose. And I think grammar goes along with the joy of writing. If you can't put your strings (words) on the guitar (story), then it doesn't matter if you can play 'Stairway to Heaven'. If you break a string, you're fucked. I'm neurotic about doing stuff myself because I hate asking other people for help and imposing or having them hold a favor over my head; I put my own guitar strings on...and I love diction. It's just fun. Thank you for the words. And your diction/grammar is excellent. Really. If I used the term 'transmigrating' in a sentence at work, I'd be beaten to death with the Scooby-Doo 'urrrr?' look. It would be sad. :o I'll make a forum post later with some examples of my writing style. (As it's quite a lengthy read with some of the dialogue that I've written for the digital comic. BTW the digital comic uses images from Silver Case, Policenauts, Snatcher & Shadowrun.) I had a blast at the Policenauts site you posted. And, that would be great. Hey, you should do National Novel Writers' Month, or 'NaNoWriMo', which happens every November. It changed the way I write. Everyone should try it at least once. I do it every year now. http://www.nanowrimo.org/ You do a 50,000 word novel in a month, and you develop the plot/characters as you go. It's like blog boot camp. It's just fun, and it's free, too. You even get a diploma via download, if you finish. I'll be working on my 3rd diploma this year. Actually, not to go too far out of subject, my blog is based upon a 50,000 + story I won my second diploma with called 'Killer S7ndicate: Green Sea'. I'll eventually get it posted when the chronology catches up to it. Oh, p.s. if I'm skirting an issue or character, especially in Killer7, it's usually because I don't understand them fully yet. I had no idea what was going on with Love. I felt like my head was going to explode at that point in the game. I wanted a decoder ring. I think I still need one, lol. You guys have a much better handle on the entire, grander scale of the game/original concept, I envy you. I dunno. Maybe I'm just meant to take the side door. It might not have any lights, but I know it's unlocked and that I have a table waiting. Gosh, it's metaphor night for me. Oh, well.
