good deal keep at it and you will get published, you are really talented. i like to read your writings, and there is no point rushing your writings, if a pleasure is pushed it ruins the reason you where doing it in the first place. My last art teacher nearly ruined sketching for me, simply on difference of opinion. so keep going ^ ^

“This,” Window said, with a beaming light that would betray most aspects of fatherhood. “Is the Med-Lab.” The group, much akin to a class being lead upon a field trip, followed closely behind him, although it probably should have been begrudgingly.
Dan remembered the trip to Monticello during high school where he’d gotten to sample bouts of freshly pressed mint julep tea made from the actual presses that Jefferson had used while in office. At the time, he’d still wanted to spike it…and Missy Evans.
At the moment, Dan was still prepared for all of this to go 'nuclear shit storm'…even without feeling the pressure of warning in his mind, his chest. So, he watched the punk for tells. Like he always did when around him, without letting him know. Ever. He was just…a punk. And a useless, worthless one, at that. But he could pick up on a whole hell of a lot. And…always…knew. It must have been equally useless for the kid in his own school daze…to be considered a circus act. A show.
This wasn’t Coburn elementary, of course; this was…business. And Con shot a ‘look’ at him. It wasn’t a ‘look’, by definition. But Dan recognized it as a puzzling; probably over Dan dragging his attention span over him. This, of course, issued the warrant for Dan covering his tracks of reliance.
“Put your eyes back in your head,” Dan rebuked the teenager without malice. “Or I’ll shoulder drive you into yesterday. I don’t know what you’re ‘looking’ at, punk.”
“You,” Con shot back without any insult or drive. In fact, it seemed to contain…concern.

Con realized, suddenly…what had been missing. The gaping hole in foot traffic should have been obvious, given the fact that they were neck deep in a medical facility. Of course, it seemed pretty late at night by standards. Con simply couldn’t let it go any longer. He ‘peered’ up at Window as they proceeded down the long hallway towards the plaque Con had just recited not too long before.
“So…I guess this would seem a whole less like a dream…or an upbeat horror movie…if there were people around…and all. Don’t you think, Dr. St. James?”
“Oh, God,” Window said, sounding angst ridden. “Please, call me ‘Window’. Or ‘Win’, which I would prefer for all of you Smiths, if you could stomach it. Awards, wall hangings and an army of medical students who are afraid to be in the same room with me…and I feel the need to force familiarity.”
“Okay then, Win,” Con responded easily. Window beamed, exhaling relief. “Now,” Con went on. “Where is everybody?”
“In the other thirty or so wings. I needed one for the night, god damn it. I’m sure there are enough able hands to handle catastrophes and emergencies for one single night. After all…it’s only a Monday. That’s a prime day for myocardial infarction, but for other tragedies-? “
Emir suddenly grimaced, as Kevin stiffened, looking towards Kaede. And Window had accidentally over-extended himself.
“November 25th, 1996 was a Monday.”
The whole of the Smiths quieted as Kaede spoke with a haunted chill to her usually meek, yet will-driven voice.

“How exactly am I supposed to feel, here…if I’m not included, ‘Mir,” Mills smiled easily. “I mean…I kind of had a role in all of this.”
“I understand that," Emir volunteered. "And, I'll give you your inch. Smiths?," Emir said, motioning towards his compatriots, and then to his friend, long gone holographic. "Christopher Mills-"
"'Mills' will suffice," the holographic New Yorker folded his arms, at once interrupting Emir. "I got no need for familiar nuances like the doc, here," he said. Window actually rolled his eyes, in the meantime, in response. Emir smiled, with understanding - seemingly, as always. He continued his thought.
"Mills is the Fields' liaison for communication and what is known as a holographic omnipresent. He's another of our marvels in technology. However, in life...he was probably the best friend I ever had."
"Emir," Mills began, actually seeming flushed. "Come on."
"Regardless...," Emir was undaunted, though with a tempered quality to his tone. "He's making Kevin have a panic attack.”

“So,” Dan expressed as he entered the ‘chapel’s’ calm inner area. “Why am I the only Smith –presumably, besides the old man – to be executed with ‘one shot’? I really would like to know, since,” and Dan laughed, without provocation. “I have no fucking clue. Thanks for that, fearless leader. Or, is that just what you claim to be. Emir.”
“I claim to be only a man who’s ‘seen’…so much more than should have been allowed to. In you,” Emir shook his head. “I saw only the proximity, the allowances of someone who wanted to go. I, in turn, allowed that much. Harman…was my mentor, after all.”
At this, Dan rolled his eyes.

“So,” Con began. “…Let me get this straight,” and, Con walked, heading backwards, arms folded behind his neck before continuing. “This, uh…,” and a smile spread upon the young Smith’s face.
“This?…,” he smiled again. “This is open 24-7? This? Seriously.”
Window smiled, looking around the – when necessary - Facility lit track; it was adjacent to the gymnasium/physical training area reserved at all times for the new and renewing agents of the Fields.
“Oh,” Window started, as the other Smiths, minus Dan listened in. “It’s open. It's the 7-11 of track and field.”
Con smirked.
“Do you have any idea,” he said. “how track privileges worked back in the 90’s? For Smiths?,” Con was nearly shrill, but within reason, as he ended the question. Window had a knowing smile, and remained silent as the teen continued. "Well, for me, at least. I don't think Dan has actually 'run' anywhere since 1973."

Dan sat, in the chapel, long after Emir had gone. He sat, and he stared ahead. There was no pulpit. There was nothing that should have been drawing his attention. However, he still stared. Then, he was rubbing his eyes – rubbing his hair. Dan shortly thereafter used the thumb upon his right hand to smooth out his eyebrows, alternatively. It felt amazing. Life, however, felt painful and sallow. It felt like it was taunting him. Nausea spiked the bones in Dan’s face – spiked them hard, and with fitful strokes. But the satisfaction wouldn’t come this time, like it would with all the other feelings of pain. It just wouldn’t come. It frustrated Dan until he wanted to smash his fists upon the pew in front of him. Then, there was the thought to look…upward.
Dan did so. The stained glass ceiling was so high and…incredible. It took all the hate from his breast. Dan had no desire, no need for the wonder. However, the sudden lack of weight in his chest allowed Dan the perspective he had been perhaps…lacking. This was horrible. This was the most horrible thing that could have happened to him, given his history. Given free will…Dan had always willingly…failed. Failed his brother. Failed Harry. Failed himself. Dan didn’t want free will. He felt like a novice behind the wheel of a Lamborghini. The curves were too sharp. He had no way of success, of reaching his destination.

Emir walked easily up to the group as they finished their tour of the track area. Mills smiled, as he always did; like he was happy to see Emir, which the posthumous New Yorker most certainly was. Con approached Emir without hesitation, and the pang of guilt stung Emir’s ribcage just a bit then.
“So,” Con said, crossing his slim, muscular arms. “I like the track.”
Emir grinned.
“I thought you might,” he said.
“Is Dan being bastard enough for you?,” Con went on.
“Oh…that was never quantifiable. It was always a definite. Clearly.”
Coyote rubbed the back of his neck, and looked critically at their host.
“So, what is this again? ‘This’. The Big ‘This’. Are you trying to persuade us to do what you want for a specific reason? I’ve gotten used to seeing the nicer things and being kept far from the strong arm via Harman. I know all about that aspect of the power struggle. The recruitment. You’ve got nice digs. You do. But…that’s not…gonna be enough now…to secure a deal with us. Huh? You have to know that. So…what’s this all about. Is it just…our firepower that you want? That can’t just be it…can it? Not…with all you’ve extended to us. That’s bullshit. You want more. And…you want more for us. Don’t you?”
Con studied Coyote as if he were the be all, end all. The golden gospel. And Con waited for Emir’s response.
“Yes, Coyote,” Emir answered. “If that’s not obvious by now – even directly regarding the short amount of time I’ve genuinely known all of you- I don’t know what is.” Window seemed a bit more vexed, pensive, and Con noted his heart rate increasing just a bit as he paced slightly.

“You’re dragging your ass, Dar,” the young man said, as he shoved Dar’s shoulder playfully. “What the shit? You got a problem with drinking after happy hour?”
Darwin McCove, a Fields Wide Eye Squad detective, rolled his eyes, and said no more. There were things about this night…that didn’t seem…normal. But then again…who could have comments on normalcy anymore. Certainly not he, himself.
“Yeah. I didn’t think so,” Dar’s companion, young and unafraid continued to rail. “I learned everything I know about drinking from you. You, and…Dan.”
Dar’s humor dimmed.
“Don’t mention his name around here unless you want a flood of meaningless conversation,” Dar said begrudgingly. “None of the kids or halfwits in this place know what the hell they’re talking about when they mention his name. Shit. I barely know. I barely remember.”
“That’s bullshit, and you know it,” the response came. “If anyone has trouble remembering the eighties and nineties…,” and Dar’s companion grinned with appropriate mirth and cynicism. “It’s me.”
