Kite: Liberator Some of us probably already seen Kite and Mezzo Forte . I've never seen gun fights that were fun to watch, OK maybe with the exception of Black Lagoon, but there's something to be said about the level of violence they can display.
I love Yasuomi Umetsu. I find it absolutely hilarious how his old publisher wouldn't fund or put out his films if he didn't include sex scenes, and he just gives them a bunch of really hardcore stuff. Maybe he really doesn't mind making the nasty stuff, but at least he was smart about where he made his cuts for the more squeamish viewers among us.
The trailer for Kite: Liberator looked really sweet, but it kinda made me raise an eyebrow at the sci fi monsters in some of the scenes. I dunno how it's gonna work, but if it's Umetsu, he'll make it work somehow.
Maybe this time he won't need to stick in the sexx0rz, but who knows?

I'm not interested in this at all. (I was, but the new direction that Liberator is going is not to my liking.)
I just want to see more explicit violence, gore & hardcore fucking. You know, a badass Ninja Scroll for the new generation.
Seriously wtf is this shit? He's getting way too pretentious.

LOL
So let me get this straight, Kite Liberator is actually going to have deep relationship dynamics and character depth rather than people just shooting the daylilghts out of each other?...damnit...no seriously...damnit...Yes, it will be a touching family drama. Forget about that kick to the face, that submachine gun, those panties. Laughing
Who wants to bet that the cute guy doesn't make it alive to the end of the credits?

There's going to be an armored sci-fi monster thing in this movie? And CG explosions in space?
Oh, geez, my interest just turned to skepticism.
But with that we can reminisce back to good ole days of Star Wars and spoiler.
He might be able to pull it off. I don't know. I never took Yasoumi seriously. I mainly paid more attention to his explicitly fast paced action & his extremely detailed T&A scenes.
Yasoumi without the shock factour just doesn't really do much for me.
I won't be too surprised if Liberator flops.
There are already way too many animes out there that try to be deep & emotional. Most of them have sucked ass. Save for most of Miyazaki's films.

Mezzo DSA as a tv series was gawdawful, which sorta made me cautious about the way Liberator will be handled.
I've got my interest in this series purely for the production values.
I'll let you know if the extreme violence, blood and gore levels hold up to the original. No guarantees on hardcore sex.
Maybe Golgo13 would fill in that gap.

Hmm... Just saw the first ep of the OVA. It was an hour long, I was half afraid it'd be the usual twenty or
so minutes.
Spoilers ahead.
I could list a bunch of technical problems in the animation near the beginning but no one but anal animation enthusiasts and animators would bother noticing them. Yasuomi still does a great job with his character and storyboard work. Overall I think the film was alright despite being such a different beast from all the dirtier stuff he usually does.
One non animation cringe: "Shi no Tenshi"
Protagonist always leaves a signature after a kill. In this case a bunch of feathers.
Liberator does allude to the original Kite through the red gun, and there's a couple instances of implied pedo rape . No exploding bullets and streaming gushers of raining blood, but some nice headshots towards the end.
There were a couple of subtle hilarious moments I really dug, my favourite being a gun fight where a cop was attacked by a thug at his pad. The cop was unarmed but scrambled over to kitchen, opened up the microwave and pulled out his heater. Gold.
The sci fi bit thankfully was made plausible. My japanese is relatively limited but what I got was that a bunch of astronauts on the job were also -*test*-('")ing out this new food product to counter the accumulating bone loss while in space. It was all hunky dory until two of the members started gaining an insane amount of bone growth and eventually go outta control.
Rampage ensues, one of the new human turned monsters die. The survivors, including a doctor and the scientist who came up with the new food product flee to earth. When they find out that the other guy, the main girl's dad, had made it down with them, they freaked and promptly called on the legendary "shi no tenshi" to go off him. And she proceeds to shoot him fulla holes. In the head, on the back, in the mouth... Yeah.
Yes, she does find out after the fact while getting a lift from her client, the guy who caused the whole shebang. After she finds out the name of the company backing him, she shoots him a few new breathing holes and starts heading home when she notices this huge explosion that sets off on the road.
Her dad apparently isn't dead. As his body regenerated his ripped up the ambulance he was in and was about to make a run until he saw his little girl on the other side of the street.
DAwwwhhh moment right there. It looks like she was gonna call out to him but that's how the first part of the OVA ends.

I really liked the first OVA, wow what animation in such a long time, i love the darker tone of colors against light hearted tone in mezzoforte and the series.
Action is superb, animation artwork, frames aboveall, butter smooth.
The only thing i didnt like is the design of the demon.
Though there was tastelful tits scene, but some fucks and nailing would be welcome in next, coz kite is
incomplete without them.
I know they wont pull it off but anyway.

I shoulda paid more attention to this thread.
Mezzo Forte and Kite had top notch animation, action and best animated nude scenes I have ever scene in animation.
I haven't seen Liberator yet, I'll probably check it out if I have absolutely nothing to do.
