Thanks for the complement on the avatar. The guys at Media Blasters never returned my email about Fudou, I'm gonna haft to call them.
Jedilink did you see Visitor Q?
Dalemushashi- 06-19-2007
Well they gave me a new copy of Fudou:The New Generation, I watched it and quite enjoyed it. It was a great piece of cinema I just wish that it had completed its story a bit better. I watched a commentary reel with Miike that was on the disc and from what I understand the manga witch Fudou was based was never completed, too bad huh.
True Grave- 06-19-2007
Yeah, some of Miike's work is based off of a manga counterpart:
MPD Psycho
Fudoh
Ichi the Killer
I'm not sure about any others.

Does anyone know if Zebraman's been released in the U.S. yet?
True Grave- 10-16-2007
I have got to watch Zebraman! I love Sho Akawa!
Heh, I've held back on watching that because I'm waiting for a US release. The trailer for the US version I believe is on the Ichi 2-disc and Ultimate versus discs, but its definetly coming to the states even if they dont have a date out there yet.
Still, if you haven't go watch IZO!
Kitano Smith- 10-16-2007
Zebraman comes highly recommended by me. And Sho Aikawa is great in this one. It was Sho's 100th movie, so it becomes a sort of celebration.
Jedilink- 10-17-2007
I HAVE in fact seen Bisita Q (check the Bisita Q post :P). It's crazy weird, and there's one of the funniest uses of poop that I've ever seen in a movie, but...well I dont know what to say. It's weird. Good stuff. :D
True Grave- 10-18-2007
Quite!
Did you see IZO yet Jedilink? I don't remember if you did...
True Grave- 12-05-2007
Okay Miike lovers,
I go the chance to watch 3 Miikes movies that I've been longing to see
DOA: Final
Silver
Family
DOA Final was pretty sweet. The whole rivalry between Sho and Riki is so much fun to watch. Plus the ending, totally caught me off guard
Silver, well, Silver was really fucking perverted. I haven't seen shit like that before in a movie. Oh and the lead actress had really big, nice, (0Y0), boobs, and you got to see em which was great. Too bad the movie ends on a cliff hanger.
Family was a pretty decent Yakuza film. It ends so abruptly, thank goodness there is a sequel. Oh did I mention a Yakuza goes after his rivals with a tank? And, I got to see Kenichi Endo's schlong.

Heh, when I read the title of this thread I went "Other" Takashi Miike? Other than what?
It's been a long time since I've watched a Miike movie, but I think his problem is just that he rushes everything so he can shit his next movie. Other than that, I really enjoy his flicks, but as whole. Like as if the next movie I watch is like part of a series of Miike episodes.
The first movie I've watched of him was Audition (which is his most refined work, in my opinion), in 1998 or something.
In 2000 I've watched Dead or Alive Hanzaisha, which I loved and replayed the ending 30 times to make sure I got that right.
After that, I've watched a bunch of them, since I became really addicted on his style.
I went on to Ichi, which disappointed me at first, and I still find it totally unbalanced, but has really cool moments.
City of Lost Souls or Hazard City was awesome. The cultural salad going on was cool, adn the blond Japanese guy called Carlos spoke much better Portuguese than TEAH! Michelle Reis (incidentally, half-Portuguese half-Chinese) is a hot MILF, and I liked her ever since I saw Wong Kar Wai's Fallen Angels.
Went on to DOA 2 - Tobousha. IMO, his best movie so far. Can't really explain it, but the childhood themes and how every single character acts like a kid won me over. And, for all its craziness, it's the only movie of his I've seen that has actually a serious theme.
Then went for Visitor Q and Gokudo Sengokushi Fudoh simultaneously. Visitor Q, I've already expressed what I think of it. Fudoh is a prime example of how Miike can make a cool, theatrical quality movie with a micro budget designed for a V-cinema release. Besides, Fudoh is a big inspiration for me, comic-book wise.
Gozu is fucking depraved. I'm not sure about this one. I digged the scene when Show Aikawa decides that the Chihuaua is a Yakuza hitman or something and decides to get rid of the threat. The final scene is a bit too Freudian for me to comment. I see where he's getting at, but WTF. The bitch is hot though.
Zebraman is, well, good. It's made for the whole family to watch, and Show Aikawa has a lot of charisma, so I really liked this one.
DOA - Final (it's actually the last movie of his I've watched). TETSUO, THE IRON PENIS. WITH ANGEL WINGS WTF. Kudos for Miike in his attempt to tie all the movies together. Then again, Miike also said that Show Aikawa's Kappa suit with a robot arm could be considered proof of sequel (Show Aikawa rips his own arm off in DOA, which is manly).
I liked Riki Takeuchi's comment on DOA's final: "BALLS!" (referring to Miike's)
This is all I've seen of Miike till now. I think I haven't missed anything.

My favorite Miike movies were Audition & City of Lost Souls.
It's all about the twist ending in Lost Souls.
"Must be her Latin temper."
Lost souls felt like a live action anime. Ichi is ruined for me, because I read the manga first, and the manga kicks the movies ass.
(The manga is more brutal, and less cartoony than the live action Ichi film.)
Heh, when I read the title of this thread I went "Other" Takashi Miike? Other than what?
We have at least 4 other Miike topics at this board.

Which is probably what she meant when she wrote "other".
(This thread is for discussion about Miike movies that don't have their own thread yet.)
Silver, well, Silver was really fucking perverted. I haven't seen shit like that before in a movie. Oh and the lead actress had really big, nice, (0Y0), boobs, and you got to see em which was great. Too bad the movie ends on a cliff hanger.
Is it any good? Everybody says it sucks. Tits can help a movie, but not if it's that damn boring.
(I fall asleep through most Miike films, so Silver might be another sleeper.)
Kitano Smith- 02-06-2008
I've read the whole of Ichi manga - after the film. And I agree on that. The manga is great. It's more everything than the movie, except it's less blonde Kakihara. Just a question, you said somewhere that Ichi got killed on the streets by some yakuza but it appeared to me that it was Ichi the one about to kill the yakuza who turned to him. And then it just cut to the end - maybe I missed something...?
True Grave- 03-04-2008
The problem with silver, like the other movies in the "Maki Collection" is that all of them are made outta mangas.
Bodyguard Kiba was pretty good in my eyes, where Kiba 2 was a snore fest.
Family was a decent Yakuza film, but it ends so abruptly. Thank God Tokyo Shock released the Family 1&2 DVD pack for $15! I'll watch Family 2 and report after seeing the whole thing.
So Silver is another Maki/Miike movie based on a manga. Silver has some pretty fucked up shit in it, but the main character is so hot with her big boobies! Anyway you got this hot big tit chick who goes after crime by dressing up as her wrestler identity, "Silver." She gets involved with some Yakuza warlord chick who is a dominatrix and carries around dilos all the time. Well Silver goes on, and the movie has different twists, but right as the plot looks like its going somewhere, it ends...and there is no "Silver 2" so i don't know what the fuck is going on.
But its worth it for the tits.
Dalemushashi- 03-04-2008
I like DOA, DOA2 Birds and Visitor Q the best out of his films that I've seen. One of the reasons I like them so much is that they are original properties. I'd check them out if your sick of incomplete story lines like Fudou(He has an excuse for this one though the manga was canceled).
True Grave- 03-08-2008
You're right, alot of Miike's movies are pre-written.
I wonder if IZO was original? I hope so, that would have to be my favorite in his stuff, aside from the DOA series.
