I dont think No More Heroes was trying to be like GTA. Like somebody mentioned, the city was to function like a hub, not some open-ended "sanbox" area. If youve played the Samurai Champloo game, then it would be easier to understand. To me, it's almost like the Samurai Champloo game was a prototype of No More Heroes, there are so many simlarities. No More Heroes just had a much larger hub due to the modern setting.

Yeah, Santa Destroy could be compared to the Mushroom Kingdom in Mario 3. You go along its various paths, sometimes going into bonus areas(Toad House:Clothes Shop), but its mostly to go from point A to point B, but with something to take up your time in between.

So that was what Suda meant by a hub - walking from circle to circle via branches :) I was thinking of the central hub in Turok series, same thing really. To be honest I can't imagine Travis stealing cars and killing random civilians so implementing that into the game seems a little excessive.

I dont have the game yet (cant find it anywhere in Argentina), but I heard that the overworld has low framerates, specially when riding the motorbike so maybe if they added more civilians and vehicles on screen, it would have been really sluggish framerate

Kitano Smith- 02-06-2008

Really? Shit, with the overworld being that barren? Well, then again, Killer7 wasn't that optimized. Even in the Gamecube version, the loading times were just excessive considering the minimalist graphics and the GC's horsepower. Normally, you shouldn't even see a single loading screen. Not even on the PS2. Resident Evil 4 is incredibly smooth and fast, considering the number of polygons and textures. But RE4 used a couple of tricks to make it run smoother, like using light bitmaps for textures over everything. It even had light and particle effects galore, and still the game ran smooth. So, I figure, there was no excuse for K7 to be so sluggish. I think they need to work on minimizing the lines of code. That's why I always thought Killer7 suffered from lazy programming.

I heard some crazy stuff on GameFAQs NMH board, from slowdown while killing many enemies at once (NA version only i think) to the game actually crashing for killing 9 enemies at onces. Not that I care tough (Got lag in RE4 when i killed enemies with the mine launcher) I think that what made RE4 ambients look so good was the textures rather than the quality of the models in the map. Its a shame that NMH isnt as polished as it should be. If theres a sequel, I hope they fix everything thats lousy in NMH

I agree with all that is being said here about Zelda Twilight Princess. The only reason why I still woul dplay it is because the graphics do look pretty sweet in terms of a Zelda game. But I'd probably get distracted and end up with my fave Zelda: Majora's Mask. As far as Adam Sessler is concerned, I really liked that video. My respect for him has grown. I've never really had a beef with him, hell I thought he was more knowledgeble than his buddy, boobies or whoever, and his respect twords NMH is great.

To be honest I can't imagine Travis stealing cars and killing random civilians so implementing that into the game seems a little excessive. Just because a game is free roam doesn't mean that you need to steal cars & kill random civilians. GTA did not create free roam sandbox gameplay. They only made it mainstream to the console audience. (Free roaming was already a staple for years in the pc gaming community.) Kenka Bancho is a GTA style free roaming game, and it plays exactly the way I would've expected NMH to play like. http://kenkabancho.com/vol19/index.html He even has a motorcycle. Kenka Bancho has a comical humourous theme just like NMH. Although Kenka Bancho isn't as violent as NMH. Kenka Bancho is more like Rivercity Ransom. Personally I think people are just making up excuses for Suda. What's the point in making a whole city if you can't do anything in it? If you're going to make it a hub at least create one that makes more sense. Like Koei's Crimson Sea 2. The hub in that game is your space ship HQ. Not that the emptiness of NMH is too surprising. This is a GHM game. FSR was also pretty barren. (You get a whole Paradise resort to explore, but nothing to actually do in it. Just like NMH.) As far as Adam Sessler is concerned, I really liked that video. My respect for him has grown. I've never really had a beef with him, hell I thought he was more knowledgeble than his buddy, boobies or whoever, and his respect twords NMH is great. Credit should be given to Sessler's script writers. Sessler doesn't really seem that knowledgeable to me. In fact he seems to be pretty inconsistent with his reporting. Look at their review for Killer 7. Adam & Morgan said that the game was pretty good during their review. A couple months later they said that K7 sucked, when someone asked for mature games on the gamecube. It's his ghost writers who make Sessler look like he knows what he's talking about. Vision has already described how useless Sessler is without a script. I think it's ridiculous how Sessler is made up to be some kind of walking encyclopedia of gaming knowledge when he's really just a nerd who gets paid to talk about video games. Nobody here really has beef with him. Some of us are only pointing out the obvious that Sessler's opinions aren't his own. I think they need to work on minimizing the lines of code. That's why I always thought Killer7 suffered from lazy programming. Agreed. Killer 7 was actually a pretty fun game, but what killed it for me was all the damn load times. Which is why I was always under the impression that the game sucked. (you spend more time during load static screens than the actual game.)

Majoras Mask is just so full of emotion. maybe there are less bosses and the dungeons are mazes of hell, but the music is awesome and the whole style of the games is exceptional (tha music when the moon is about to fall is JUST PLAIN AWESOME) MM managed to touch my heart

kaxantrom- 02-08-2008

I don't remember hearing Suda saying I'll make a gta clone >.<, but editors brought this idea up, and yeah Travis is too kool to be doing stupid things like killing civilians and running away from the cops :)
