Simple Metaphors in the Smiths Deaths
These are just some simple possible metaphors I've noticed throughout Killer7 and I think I might have something with a few of them, anyway here it goes. The smiths deaths could sympolize their individual stereo type in American(or possibly Japanese) soceity. Kevin's Death: Kevin I think symbolizes the working man, notice that he is simply doing his job and is dispatched with barely any effort from Emir. I think this shows the way the working man is laid off or screwed very simply or effectivly in soceity. Also note he is the only member of the Smiths to take a headshot showing how he was the most effectivly and excessivly killed/screwed. Con's Death: I think Con shows a typical care free youth. When he is shot he is not even paying attention showing ignorence that is often associated with youth. He also relaxing when he meets his downfall and looking/sonaring out at the world he wants to see and enjoy rather then noticing obvios trouble coming his way(also note that he is blind). Mask's Death: He symbolizes the celebrity in soceity: First off he is naked and not wearing his mask which shows a famous persons vulnrebility when away from the spotlight. The mask he wears is off which shows he is out of character in is in a relaxed state of mind. Celebrities in real life soceity often meet their end(metaphorically by spending time away from the spotlight and losing public interest or literally by the way many famous personas met their end at a more relaxed setting(Jon Lenon, Marilyne Monroe, James Dean)) at leisure or in a more comominer mode. He's also showerring which shows celebraties often outgoing focus on grooming by taking a shower. Kaede's Death: She mirrors a woman in modern soceity. First off she sees the danger coming and takes action to avoid it(which could symbolize the preparation women take to avoid danger or despair which is a common female reaction or common stereo-type of a female reaction). Then she hides out in a closet(closets usual store clothing which women are stero-typed to cominly seek and buy in mass which often breaks their careful planning on a financial level). The closet could also represent the way women are tucked away in soceity and always take a back seat to men. She dies quitly and in hiding(which could show how passive tactics taken in real-life by women never work against male aggressiveness and how more aggresive action taken by females could work better). Also notice that she is the only member to keep the clothing she was killed in when becoming a part of Garcian/Harman this could be showing a female's attachment to clothing again. Coyote's Death: He represents the way an ethinic person is or is perceived in soceity. Alright first off he is in very good shape which is often a conception drawn from the heavy amount of athletes not white. He is the only Smith to get shots off at Emir which shows how many ethnic people have fought somewhat effectivly against white soceity(Native American Rebelion, African American Riots). He meets his end by a simple trick, which could be trying to convey the way less educated minorities have been financialy screwed. The reflection could also symbolize the way decisions and lifestlye choices taken by minorities could be used against them(these are mostly made up of racial predijuices that may or may not be true). Dan's Death: He represents the all powerful white male in soceity. First off he's sitting(in a very relaxed possion) possibly symbolizing the commonly perceived lazyness of white americans. He also shows the most cockyness which could symbolize the unstoppable domminering(note he critisizes Emir) attitude commenly perceived to be conveyed by male white americans, he also meets his end due to this attitude(which could symbolize the decline of the american economy often contributed to cockyness and lazyness). Other things to take note of in considering symbolism in the Smiths deaths The working man is screwed first by soceity(this could be because of how hard they have been taking it in recent years in real-life). The youth secound often a son of the working man. Celebraity takes it third possibly showing the loss of finacial support due to the loss of youth and the working man/materialistic middle class american's(fans). Woman takes it third only after the loss of their children(could symbolize the way lose their child for finacial reasons) and husband(working man) which could show the way soceity takes care of the male first, then the celebrity a possible emotional cruch of a women(a famous person to admire). The minority takes it fifth possibly showing the way help has recently come their way in soceity(Kaede also was the one to warn Coyote about Emir which could show the way many female dominated orginizations have helped minorities). Finally the dominating slacker takes it last from soceity(which shows the way business men or other more sucsesful members of american soceity have more to fall back on). Also notice Dan gets the most attention throughout the game, and then Mask and then Con then everyone else( this shows the full power of the sucsesful white male the influence of the celebrity then the insanifficence of youth that through soceitys full help they are able to overcome by financial aid extra help with shcooling and the way reality tv shows often focus on seemingly meaningless youth). Notice the woman the minority and the working man get little or no attention plot wise. Closing All I have written here is pure personal conjecture and none of this may be what Suda51 was trying to convey but hopefully it will atleast get you thinking. This is a ruff draft and needs to go through spelling/grammar check so please pardon my spelling for now. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Now that's something that I never heard or even thought of before.... Bravo, that has got to be one of the most intriquing posts about K7 that I've ever seen in a long while. It truly gets the job done, in making you look at the K7 deaths with a different perspective. This is exactly how we all got into Killer 7 in the first place. I can actually agree with everything you wrote, because of the way you explained your point of view. I loved how everything fit together seemlessly working your way all the way up to Dan Smith. (Though I have to admit. When I first saw Dan Smith I kinda thought he was chinese or japanese, because of the whole suit & tie look. Than again, the badass in a 3 piece suit is also a common stereotype among caucasian men as well.) Never the less this is truly an interesting metaphor of societie's food chain. My only question is.... who or what does Garcian Smith represent? Is he suppose to be some kind of rebellion against the machine? The "one" who takes down the "man"? He also shows the most cockyness which could symbolize the unstoppable domminering(note he critisizes Emir) attitude Hah hah, I never noticed, but that's true. I remember I saw a recording of John Gotti's *The mobster* wife getting pissed at some typical white american male, simply because he too was also displaying a condescending attitude, but he did it with annoying subtle gestures & critiques. -As if she were too uncivilized to notice that she was getting dissed.- Which is kinda funny since she's white herself, although it most likely had to do with the fact that she's Italian & a woman. (And the widow of a gangster.) Notice the woman the minority and the working man get little or no attention plot wise. Never noticed this one either. Just like real life the only reason why you even notice them in the first place is because one's a woman (No matter how much progress we make, the world will almost always remain sexist. *Hmm, what's that you say? I'm sorry, but I was staring at your tits.*), the other is an ethnic minority. (Who are usually only noticed by virtue of being different or uncommon. I must admit I friggin' can't stand token minorities, because they have a tendancy to throw up the "race card" on you. *For the lamest of offenses.*) Working men go by un noticed (Or are considered irelevant) in general, hence Kevin Smith's ability to turn invisible. ---- Damn I need to stop goofing off, & finally finish the update that I was working on in the begining of the year. Especially with lovely written pieces like the one you just wrote. All I have written here is pure personal conjecture Don't worry about it. This is exactly what FILE 7 is for. Pure conjecture & or theories.

Lisker- 03-17-2007

Interesting theory, it's always nice to see new ideas for the plot.

Dalemushashi- 03-17-2007

In this scene I see Emir/Garcian as soceity itself, he's effeceint and creates some of the symbolism simply through the way he does it. The only thing he doesn't control is order he just goes from floor to floor in order going up(what that might mean I'm not sure). I first came to this concept after reading Con Smith's Angel's theory dealing with the seven deadly sin's and Jame Howell's plot explanation were it describes the 7 members as both chess pieces and concepts of Eastern Religion(All three of these theory's I strongly agree with). But I realized looking at the death scenes that all the symbolism mentioned earlier flew out the window with the way they died. Then I thought if the characters lost their Religous/Morale symbolism when they were just people as oppose to being a part of Garcian/Harman that they must garner some symbolism towards the Politcal/cultural side of Killer7. For example Kevin is sloth yet he is working when he is killed or the way Dan(wrath) isnt as aggresive as Coyote was fighting Emir. The only one that still fits is Mask's sin(atleast with my theory). I'm glad you guys enjoyed my post I'll probaly do some other articles on some of the other symbolism I've noticed throughout the game later.

EDIT: Alright heres the same article after being run through by spelling/Grammar check. If anyone notices any other spelling or grammar issues please tell me. Wow I can't wait for this to become a part of this awesome site 8) .

THis threory looks durable. Good job. First wall of text able to keep me interested in weeks, to be honest.

Its refreshing to look at the smiths in this light. I find it very interesting. This discussion also brings up another view point that I read a while back. One of the reasons why kaede is barefoot the entire game is because she was making a late night call, to, Coyote. Which can also explain why he is in his underwear. This reason also elaborates why Kaede wasn't in her room in the first place. I thought that was an interesting view point. Oh, did anyone catch the song that was playing in the background during all the killings?

Lisker- 03-20-2007

I heard it was called Greensleeves.

True Grave- 03-20-2007

Yeah thats it, I figure that song has a certain meaning if it was used to show all the smith's deaths.

Wow,I mentioned that before and no one at Gamefaqs understood me...man it sucks when people are not getting you! But thanks for pointing that out.

Dalemushashi- 03-20-2007

Thanks for the positive feedback, I was kinda unsure when I was writing it whether it would be well accepted or not. I noticed something that might be worth mentioning. In the article I pointed out how mask symbolized a famous person, and how celebriteis often meet their end at home in soclusion. They often meet their end in the mind when people stop caring essentially, so they die in a symbalic way by having their hearts broken, Mask takes all of Emirs bullets in the heart region of the chest. Which might be symbolizing the famous Icon thing further.

Punisher- 06-30-2007

I read about what you had to say and I never even saw any of that, but now that I think about what you wrote, it really does make sense. Bravo!

Dalemushashi- 06-30-2007

Thanks a bunch for the kind words. :D

TheBloodyHeartland- 08-07-2007

Man, thats one of the most interesting things ive heard someone one mention on Killer 7. Ive been thinkin for a long time if their deaths were symbolic, and the only one i could think of was Con. Anyway, nice work. :D

PhasE- 01-18-2008

I bumped into some guys comments on youtube and it was pretty intriguing. The deaths of the Smiths seems to contrast their personae: Kevin the invisible man, spotted first and shot down in public (not inside a private room) so everyone can see. Con the kid with the best hearing didn't hear anyone enter the room before he died. Mask de Smith was seen without his mask, a man that prides on his wrestling skills and usually never seen without a mask. Dan the cold killer, he hesitated. Not too sure about Kaede and Coyote: My guess is Kaede running away showing fear and hiding compared to the way she is as an assassin. Coyote's maybe lack of reflex and agility to being outsmarted. Love this game, I beat this game in 2 sittings.
