SIMPSONS!!!! So who's seen it? Wasn't it fantastic!?!?!? I better hear some yesses because it WAS a great movie! ^_^ I LOVED it! :D And the animation was fantastic too. :) My favorite joke was just a couple minutes into it though when Bart is on his skateboard (DON'T give that part away anyone because it's so good when it takes you by surprise).
Oh man, this is what movies should be. They should just leave me with a good feeling about them. Or disturb me deeply, either way, I'm gonna love em. ;)

I've been watching the show for a looong time. Back when Mr. Burns had a different voice actor. I wont get into how I think the series has been increasingly becoming... not funny. But after I saw the trailers with the awful "spider pig" thing or Homer just getting hurt all the time, I really went to see this with very low expectations.
I'm glad I went with low expectations because I actually ended up enjoying the movie a lot. There were parts that I thought really shouldn't have been in the film(a part during the Bart skateboarding scene...) and didn't really feel like "The Simpsons" but rather some crap that you might see on Family Guy... which I can't stand. However, if you've been watching the show since the 80's it was easy to tell that there were some old writers that contributed to the movie.
There were some "classic" moments bringing back subtle or witty scenes/jokes that the show was known for and it was great to see some old characters show up again. Drederick Tatum and the cat-throwing lady just to name a couple. Like the trailer said, it's a very large cast of characters. I almost feel like going to see it again just to see who else they threw in, but I think I'll wait for the DVD or Blu Ray.

I was really disappointed. I haven't watched a lot of new Simpsons episodes, but I bought the fifth season DVD in preparation for the film.
When did the humor in the show become so crude and unsubtle? Especially in regards to the political and environmental themes. It was like being beaten over the head with a recycling bin.
Also it had Green Day. That knocked it down a few notches in my book.
And the skateboard gag mentioned in the topic post was just...unnecessary.

True.. but at least there was a good part about the Green Day thing... similar to the episode when the Spinal Tap tour bus crashes and explodes.

Dude, I can't stand Green Day. But still they sank! They DIED! Right at the beginning of the movie! I thought it was hilarious!
As for the one joke of Bart on his skateboard....HOW was that NOT funny?!?!?! I thought that was one of the funniest parts!!! I loved it! Some people don't think that kind of thing is very funny and some find it gross, but I thought it was just so unexpected, that it just was great. You don't expect that to happen right then but it does. I thought that was funny...even if other people don't like it.
But yeah, Green Day was killed in the first scene. How can you not love that?!!?!?

Hmm, that changes everything. The Simpsons movie might actually be decent.
(The Simpsons has been boring since who knows when.
All I know is that when I came back from Japan I was like this is the show that I thought was funny?)
and didn't really feel like "The Simpsons" but rather some crap that you might see on Family Guy... which I can't stand.
I actually like Family Guy. (I also love Married with Children)
I practically can't get enough of the potty humour at Adult Swim/Cartoon network. Mostly Metacalypse, Venture Bros., Aqua Teen, & Robot Chicken.
Still waiting for Korgoth...
(The comedy block is light years better than their Anime time slot. The only good anime they have now, is Ghost in the Shell, & Shin Chan.)
Though the funniest show of all time IMO is
"It's always sunny in Philadelphia" on the FX channel.

Meh, I don't like it at all, there were some enjoyable scenes but it doesn't surpassed my expectations, it looked more like a large episode rather than a movie itself

Solution: Go see this movie on drugs. I did, and I don't think I've laughed this much during a movie in my entire life. I'm going to see it again Wednesday too!

I just sleep like two hours the night before and then its all good :D
Jedilink- 08-14-2007
Well, I think it's funny. Maybe it's not as edgy as it might have seemed when it first came out back in the day, but it's still a good movie. I recently got the 4th, 5th, and 6th seasons on dvd (about 92-95 or so) and the movie didn't seem like the humor was any different from the shows I'd been watching recently. Of course a lot of people say that South Park is totally different than when it started out. It's got more characters, but I don't think it's much different.

I didn't really like The Simpsons movie. It was a little too preachy for its own good. The jokes were a little stiff, and the plot was a little far-fetched, even for the Simpsons. Reminded me of the episodes during it's "dark era", what i like to call seasons 14 on. It's not a total bust, but it was a failure before a success.
Now, the new Futurama movie is the shizzle!! I am biased though. IMO, Futurama is the funniest, smar-*test*-('") cartoon ever written, and I'm glad Comedy Central is bringing her back for a bit. Also, all the new episodes are coming out in 2-hour DVD's, like this first one called Bender's Big Score. What a great movie, on so many levels. Simpsons what?
Jedilink- 01-02-2008
Nah, Simpsons is better. :P
