Suda 51 and Shinji Mikami working together again!
Article from kotaku http://kotaku.com/359500/goichi-suda-shinji-mikami-team-up-for-more-awesomeness

That's awesome, but I think that we have to wait a couple of years before seeing something new from Mikami & Suda, Suda is actually working on too many projects. SC and FSR remakes Fatal Frame IV Kurayami Project S As far as I know Mikami is no longer with capcom; when they closed clover studio he reformed it indipendently with the name of Seeds, now PlatinumGames, so I guess that if they made a new game toghether, the plot will not be cutted and raped like Killer7.

Fan-fuggin-tastic. Mikami had a facebook thing for his new Platinum Games studio and hinted he wanted people to help him out on his new game. Maybe that was the one?

kaxantrom- 02-22-2008

This is the greas-*test*-('") news in recent years omg so excited, godhand creator, resident evil creator MIkami ftw and suda, the best team worries about what system dat game will be :| I will buy it I will go insane don't know how but I will buy a ps3 or xbox360 >.< just for it cus the experience will be like no other

mokoi- 02-23-2008

Is kurayami actually in production? If so, even more reason to buy a PS3.

KIRBY 7- 03-01-2008

Ah hell nah. Fuck Kurayami. It looks like Suda's attempt at trying to make a "Shadow of Colossus" style game. I thought Colossus was boring as hell. Kurayami looks to follow that direction. I'd rather see some typical ish from Mikami & Suda. Say, another Hitman influenced game like Killer 7. Mikami & Suda 51 are the dream team. All they need is more freedom to do what they want. (Freedom that they didn't have when they made Killer 7.) Which is why I'm anxious to see this Platinum release. BTW does anybody have Page 1 of this interview. I can't believe they actually asked Suda why he always kills off his protagonists. I always wondered why Contact sucked hard & didn't feel like a Suda 51 game at all. Turns out that a different team within GHM was handling the legwork for Contact. It amazes me how the Euro's seem more knowledgeable about Suda's games. I never see interviews like that in the States. (Unless it's by gamasutra.) Our interviewers usually ask Suda pointless fanboy shit.

Lisker- 03-01-2008

To think an American gaming magazine would even play Suda's games, that's a funny thought.

I read this from the comments "The first bit of an answer on that scanned page is the end of a quote about Project S. No real news, but it shows that Suda really wants to say something about it, but he's not allowed to just yet. "GamesTM: You're also supposed to be working with Hideo Kojima on Project S. What can you tell us about that? Goichi Suda: Again it's definitely happening, but I can't say anything more. You'd have to ask Konami about that. I wish I could tell you more. I'm so sorry." they will have more freedom, sometimes I hate capcom they evil like microsoft :P just money and money but not originality, if you see Mikami was always there for them with Resident evil, Dino Crisis, and thanks to him they created Devil May cry that was supposed to be a RE game, thanks to him there is viewtiful Joe, God hand, *okami maybe?* and capcom does not consider him, that sucks, even ppl in the gaming world don't know about Mikami he made a big contribution to the gaming world, Mikami is god :P with Suda, Hideo and Shiggy, they are like the number 4, you know 4 seasons, east, west, south and north, 4 gospels? about Kurayami, remember that this titles are to keep the company running, so they get money and if it is like Shadow of Colossus, that's good cus I like that game :P I wish Suda was a Hideo or Miyamoto, they could do whatever they want, because the have the choice, but Mikami and Suda they don't have this access, maybe in the future

KIRBY 7- 03-02-2008

about Kurayami, remember that this titles are to keep the company running, so they get money and if it is like Shadow of Colossus, that's good cus I like that game :P Not if the game flops. Then all the investment that went into funding Kurayami would amount to loss of capital especially if it were as big budget as that overrated mountain simulator snore fest "Shadow of Colossus". Suda 51 isn't a sure seller (guaranteed profit) like Mikami & Kojima. Like XED said, Suda doesn't have the ability to make a game like Shadow of Colossus. Suda 51 should stick to what he does best, & that's writing & directing. He should let a more experienced game development team do all the leg work. I seriously don't see how an original ip would keep a company running. Suda 51 has said himself how hard it is for original ips to take off in the gaming world. I think you're thinking of GHM's licensed anime games. Those are the titles that keep GHM afloat. Games like Samurai Champloo have a guaranteed audience. Kurayami is a gamble. Even amongst Suda fans. Or myself at least. I prefer his Kill the Past titles. His non KTP related games have all been mediocre, because they don't have the level & quality of writing & artistic direction that his KTP games are known for. (NMH itself is a KTP game. A KTP game without the story, but it still has the KTP style artistic direction.) but Mikami and Suda they don't have this access, maybe in the future Suda does do whatever he wants. Which is why he has GHM. Suda is only restricted whenever he's under contract. (Such as the contract with the Capcom 5.) Mikami himself also has free reign now, because he runs platinum games. The only reason Kojima has free reign to do whatever is because Kojima runs his own company called Kojima productions or something like that. The main reason why restrictions are imposed has to do with the people who fund the games. (The men in suits.) You won't be able to make the game. (They handle the money needed to make the game.) If you don't appease the men in suits. You need to be able to convince the men in suits that your game will churn out a huge profit. A typical Suda 51 game (Flower, Sun, & Rain) is too weird to be released as a game. (FSR is way too indie art house) Games like FSR wouldn't exist at all if Suda didn't own his own company. (GHM) Which means that Suda himself handles the funding for his own GHM projects. Which then leads me back to why I think Kurayami is a bad idea. GHM doesn't have the budget nor the talent to handle a concept like Kurayami.

kaxantrom- 03-02-2008

I thought a big publisher was funding Kurayami, now I do agreed it is a bad choice even devil may cry 4 just sold 275,000 units in Japan

Fulgor- 03-02-2008

I thought by the time Kurayami was announced, everybody still thought (at least those who didn't know it before) that Suda51 had a big development house and the sufficient money to push a project like that. But now we see the other face of the coin; Grasshopper is still a small development house and that will cost them a lot of time and money, and even if someday they make something like that, remember that Suda's games have the bad tendecy to flop. Also Suda still don't have experience into the Horror Genre, just look at Michigan, is not the Survival game that everybody expected, is more like some some shitty vouyerist game. Although he still can come with something good if he put some effort on Fatal Frame 4.

Xed- 03-03-2008

Like XED said, Suda doesn't have the ability to make a game like Shadow of Colossus. You know what? That's one of the reasons because I like Suda. Because he's not considered a divine being like Mikami or Kojima. Sometimes his games sell well in only one country, somethimes they flop, sometimes they never get released outside japan, somethimes they have to do licensed games to earn money ecc. GHM is a small company that does great games and shitty games. And I appreciate that. They're still young, they're not perfect but they enjoy what they do. They always try to do something new. No More Heroes gameplay is pretty decent after all. It's a step ahead for GHM. I like to see how they grow up. But Kurayami will probably be a shitload of fuck. Because is too damn pretentious for a small company like GHM. I mean, they would've waited until they had the capabilities to do such a game. Look at No More Heroes. They did samurai champloo first. They didn't tried to do such a pretentious game without train themselves. Do Kurayami without any expirience is just a suicide.

axl99- 03-03-2008

Who knows, maybe doing another project with Mikami might help give him more ideas on Kurayami. But technically speaking Suda is working on Fatal Frame IV, so he might have a peek at how the dev team there works and introduce it to the GHM guys while they work on Kurayami, assuming it's under production. In any case, I hope the games turn out alright, Suda's taking a big gamble working on so many things at once. It's gonna be a while before any of us see anything come out of it.
