Uwe Boll I was in Wal_Mart recently and I found a copy of Alone in the Dark in the 5 dollar bin. My friend told me to watch it because it was SO awful that it's just as bad as any other B-movie. I got it (hey it was cheap!.......and NO my credibility in films is still doing fine!.....I like dreck just as much as a masterpiece sometimes!) But anyway, it was cheap and it was SUPPOSED to be so bad it's funny.
I watched it......
It looked like some retarded TV movie! Like when you turn to Lifetime (sorry you non American's out there if they don't have it! :P) and they're showing some tv movie. It looks like that kind of HORRID quality! It was actually quite funny if you watch the film with that kind of attitude. It also has loads of continuity errors which helped it too. I thought the movie as a REAL film was absolutely awful.......I just can't describe how repulsive the film is if you watch it expecting a good movie! However watching it as a B-movie.....I thought it was pretty funny, not something I'd watch over Bolo or the Killer Meteors....or Riki-Oh (I LOOOOOOOOOOVE that movie!), but still quite funny! :P Now I wanna see House of the Dead since it has clips from the game just RANDOMLY placed in the film! It sounds just as bad! HAHA!
Tell me what you think of the Bollmeister!
And by the way, his idea for Postal.......sounds awesome I can't wait to see his butt handed to him in that boxing match!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! XD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I heard House of the Dead 2 was alot better than the first. Plus it has Vergil's voice actor from DMC3 as an actual actor in the film.
ConSmithsAngel- 07-16-2006
Makes me think of the Residnet Evil movies, they're horrible!!! The games are fun,but the movies are just for people who have never played it,it might be fine then, but after playing Resident Evil 3,and after hearing about Reisdent Evil Apocolypse,I was so discusted, they didn't even get the story right.
True Grave- 07-16-2006
Of course they didn't get the story right. No offense, but folks need to understand that these video game to film movies are not going ot be what you expect. Same for any comic/graphic novel to film movie. Boll himself said what the problem was. Once you buy rights to the game you can do with it what you want. The company that originally owns the game doesn't care what the film is , they just want to see the check clear.
The problem with Boll's films is the "do with what you want" turned out to be just as bad as the example he was giving.
Plus if the video game movie followed the source material to a T then you will lose out on customers. Frankly I felt the Silent Hill film is once of the best video game movies out there. But it got some crappy reviews. My point is the film industry is ALOT different than the game or comic industry. You have to understand your audience.

I can't wait to see what they change to make the Pac-Man movie more accessible to audiences.

Have you ever watched Club Dread?
Jedilink- 07-18-2006
Well after watching Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children a bunch of times I can say that...........videogames CAN become accurate continuations of the game storyline WITHOUT sacrificing loads of crap in the process! That's one of the very BEST action films I've ever seen (forgetting the game liscense!). I'd say that since the Final Fantasy movies (yes BOTH OF THEM!!!! They're both good films I don't care what anyone says!) had a big enough of a budget, that's the exact reason why they were good films!
I think the problem is that the filmmakers try to be too close to the game but don't have the budget and their movie ends up shortcutting loads of stuff or they try to change the story of the film to give a new experience in turn making a bad film! Also in many cases the actual TALENT is not there either!!!! If you want a GOOD film based on a game then you need the budget to accomplish it! You need the talent to write and direct it! And most of all you need the knowledge to be able to adapt a 10-100 hour game into a 2 hour film without making too many sacrifices or at least without making those sacrifices detract from the filmgoing experience.
I'd say to all of those videogame moviemakers out there.....Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is the one to beat people!
Oh and Uwe Boll is a dorkface nerdbutt! :P HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
ConSmithsAngel- 07-18-2006
True, but also it was made by the original company who made the game.
True Grave- 07-18-2006
That being said, here's the reason why that film sucked a$$. The plot was nonsense. Now I will say the action is great, and the CG is top notch, but man, its so hard to sit and watch everything that isn't action. Plus the film was predictable. I am not a Final Fantasy fan, but when they said that Sephiroth was dead, I just laughed. There is no way in Hell they'd make a FF7 film without him in it.
Also you forget Jedilink, that film never saw a theatrical release in America. All the other video game films have. This film was tailor-made for fans of FF7. Even Boll's visual-barf films made it to some unlucky theaters.
Jedilink- 07-19-2006
Yeah and it never had a theatrical release in Japan either! The plot to the movie makes sense!! I mean, I never played through the game and it makes sense to me........I'm just saying that regardless.....as a FILM. It's a GREAT movie! :D
And yes the film was actually directed by the same guy who directed the FFVII game as well! I'm not saying this is EXACTLY the reason to why the film was good, but I'm saying that their actual KNOWLEDGE helped make the film good. They obviously knew their stuff nd could therefore do what they needed in order to put the FFVII universe into a good film atmosphere.
It's a good movie!
Jedilink- 07-19-2006
Well regardless.......someday, I want to be able to make a Legend of Zelda movie! As long as I can get the budget I would need.....I'll do it. And it'll be ACCURATE to how it SHOULD be!!!!! It won't be nothing about the series like Resident Evil 2: Apocalypse was.....and Alone in the Dark too! That's one of my dream projects! Along with some other ideas that I have too! :D
Lisker- 07-19-2006
I think it's because it was made for fans, not movie-going audiences. Thus, nothing from the original game was sacrificed to make it more accessible for people who weren't familiar with the game. Not to mention that it was a sequel, so anyone who hadn't played the game wouldn't have any idea what was going on. And if they had tried to make Final Fantasy 7's story into a movie, it wouldn't work, no matter who made it, just try cutting down all of those cinema scenes into an hour and a half. But as a movie on its own merits, it was cool, but really nothing more than a fanservice-y flick meant to provide fans with something entertaining, the story really wasn't anything special, it was just interesting to people because it featured many of their favorite characters making a return, the plot was actually pretty thin when you take it for what it is.
Was Club Dread that Friday the 13th-ish comedy horror movie? Never saw it.
True Grave- 07-19-2006
Wow Lisker you took the words right outta my mouth. I do want to remind the community here that I am a film major at college. We discuss stuff like this daily. And you have provide a very accurate response. Oh and you're right about Club Dread. Its also a really-bad film. I don't reccomend it unless you got a big bag of weed and don't give a sh*t.
The plot for FFF7AC was very thin, but there is also the cultural differences. Which is also why many of the Japanese films I praise have not, and will not see a state side theatrical release. They are just re-made to better suit our audience. And now I am repeating my self. You have to know your freaking audience.
I am a big video game fan. But I honestly wish they wouldn't make game films. No-one benefits from it. Almost all of those films have been bashed to death by critics or have done very poorly in the box office, and its just going to continue. I mean the Dead or Alive film? You seriously think that will be accepted by critics? No it won't. It will sell on opening day, and it will sell on the first day its DVD comes out. Other than that, its a pure waste of time.
To comment on the mentioning of Zelda being turned into a movie, do you realize how boring of a film that would be? You wanna subject your audience to hours of dungeon exploration? Then give them bits of a really convoluted plot in between? You wanna dress a dude up like a farie, and have him cut down plants? I sure as hell hope you are joking. And to explain myself, also being a Zelda fan, the game Zelda was made for a video game console, not the silver screen. It's perfectin every way, on a video game console.
Everyone has to understand that certain rules have been set for filming a movie. And yes, I do know certain directors have broken or re-written those rules. But traditionally, films that follow the "Hollywood code" do quite well.
Jedilink- 07-20-2006
Ok obviously I wouldn't make the main character look EXACTLY like that! :P HAHA! There's things you can change and keep him the same person. And I KNOW that I wouldn't be making Link go through dungeons all the time. You just aren't viewing it the same way as I am but that's ok because it's my idea and I haven't told anyone anyway! :P So you wouldn't understand what I'd do with it. The Lord of the Rings films weren't EXACTLY the same as the books but yet they were all great! I wouldn't keep the audience in dugeons! :P It's just a completely different view of what I see as the film. Not that the film would be completely different to the game or something but it's not my view of how the film version would become. It's hard to explain but I think I'd have a good idea of what to do with it. Oh where are you going to film school anyway? And how much does it cost!? HAHA! I'm looking ALL over to find a film school but everything is way too expensive or something! :( I just want to find a GOOD school at a GOOD price and be able to get a terrific and enlightening education there you know?!
True Grave- 07-21-2006
The Lord of the Rings books are incredibly boring. Why do you think they packed the films with action? Must I repreat myself again?
