YES. I'm inspired. I found out the real meaning behind green watermelons, which is a matter that deserves much more attention than that given till now. People just don't understand how smart and developped organisms watermelons really are. The Watermelon is an overlooked gem.
Yes, they are green. But not any kind of green you find in cucumbers or any other vegetable of that ilk.
That's actually a pretty good article.
10/10 A+++++++++++ WOULD BUY AGAIN!!!!1!!!1
Yeah what a great article
NMH is one the grea-*test*-('") new games :)
So Sylvia Christel is some kind of game designer? She set up all the killer fights to create a plot for the final confrontation between Travis and Jeane. She lied to all the assassins, to travis and probably to jeane (and don't forget ermen/emir) to create a story. She's the puppet master behind the entire game.
Henry is both the source of her money and an uncontrollable factor in her simulation IMO.
I love the comment on why the world of Santa Destory is bland, uninteresting, and is rife with pop-up!
But like the article says its going ot be tough to sell poor game design on artistic values. Especially to folks on gamefaqs and IGN.
I wonder if Suda made shitty games on purpose, would they be all "brown" and photo realistic?
Personally I think that article is over glorified pseudo intellectual bullshit.
One of these days. I can easily imagine somethingawful or penny arcade doing a comic strip/editorial that straight up makes fun of the Suda 51 fan base, because we have a tendency to derive non existent messages from pointless symbolism.
That's the thing that I really admired about decoy/zenden. He could actually see that most of this gibberish is in fact pointless & irrelevant symbolism, because it has no actual meaning.

LOL, once again Mr. Smith has posted certified gold.
I agree 100% with this comment. I couldn't have said it better myself. Actually I couldn't, because I'm way too blunt & straight forward.
To any of y'all who may have misinterpreted his message.
What Kitano is actually saying is that everything in the world could be interpreted to have deeper meaning, but that doesn't actually imply that the subject in question is deep.
What it does mean is that the individual who derived the meaning did so, because he directed his own energy toward "seeing" things/meaning that aren't actually there.
First off. I'm having trouble defining what law of science or philosophy that Cowzilla3 is actually utilizing in order to derive his meaning.
If you notice with most of my my Killer 7 theories.
What I'm actually doing is utilizing geopolitical logic, ponerology & deciphering doublespeak in order to come to the conclusions that I have.
The majority of the time I will point out several key words that either have double meanings ("Japanese members" "Promise" "fireworks" "god hand", etc.) or words that are used incorrectly.
In order to deceive or obscure the true meaning of the message that Killer 7 tries to get across.
Key example the Fukushima/ Harman Smith meeting.
That cutscene alone tells you almost all the fundamental truths about the nature of politics. Yet so many gamers remain in the dark about the actual message, because Fukushima chose to speak like a politician.
(He is a politician.)
Instead of saying that politics is like a pointless ceremony that merely goes through the motions in order to misdirect the populace into being complacent.
What Fukushima said is that politics is like a stage where people only acted, & played the part of the politician.
Fukushima wanted to become a real politician. In other words he wanted to actually help people, and not give people the illusion of hope.
Either way both wordings that I described above mean basically the same thing. That politics is a staged drama that involves the audience (populace) whether they like or not.
That's just one of the many hidden meanings contained in Killer 7.
This brings moi back to what I find wrong about that bs destructoid post.
What is the scientific or philosophical logic that Cowzilla used in order to reach his conclusion?
From what I can see. All he really did was insert symbolisms on to many aspects of the game.
"Travis is us."
"What are Travis's interests? The same interests that many young men have."
That's all well & good, but then I ask. How did Cowzilla come to these conclusions?
It sounds like he just made up symbolic meanings without rhyme or reason.
I don't disagree with the symbolisms.
As I see them too, but guess what. NMH is like that on purpose, because it's satirizing videogame narratives.
What makes these symbolisms pointless is that Cowzilla failed to come up with a relevant message that the symbolism is trying to convey.
Seriously, what kind of message is this?
Why did any of us start playing the game? Was it to unravel the mystery or be confronted in our ideals? I doubt it.
We just wanted to chop people up with a light saber and Suda51 totally called us on it, and not just people who played No More Heroes but all gamers.
Wow, that is so profound & deep. I just wanted to cut shit up, and Suda gave moi exactly what I wanted.
If anything this relates more to the satirical theme of the game, but I digress.
I guess Gremlins 2 is one of the deepest & most meaningful movies of all time, because it satirizes the nature of movie sequels, and how they are only made to capitalize on franchising merchandise.
This sentiment that I have should sound familiar to y'all. This is exactly what I say about the spiritual/religious symbolism in Killer 7.
The spiritual themes of Killer 7 are irrelevant, because they don't lead you to a bigger message.
They are just there. (As references to other "Kill the Past" games I guess.)
I'm starting to see why zenden/decoy prefers Metal Gear Solid more after seeing bullshit editorials/blog posts like these.
As trivial as the messages in MGS are, at least MGS games convey to you relevant messages with actual meaning & relavance.
When I see this No More Heroes theory. Shit, it just makes moi shake my head with disgust.
Especially since I already know that the ending is actually referencing Flower Sun & Rains ending if anything else.
Travis wants to escape to Paradise (DREAM). Sumio wants to come back to reality (LIFE)
I saw a lot of psychological commentary in No More Heroes, and I find it amazing how that article chose to ignore the basic themes of
"what is a killer"
Almost every single rank assassin had a monolouge that relayed you more about the inner workings & perceptions of the ones we call killers, between those who we deem sane.
This theme is actually a reoccurring theme that is inserted into every single kill the past game.
(Even Killer 7. Julia Kisugi & Kun Lan had the most "what defines a killer" commentary in that game.)
"ponerology at a microlevel"
Sylvia Christel manipulated everybody & got away with it, because she has the mind of a psychopath.
A psychopath can easily elude retribution so long as they have everybody controlled like a puppet under a system of mass compartmentalization.
I can't remember the other relevant message I saw.
It revolved or added more meat to a message that was parlayed in FSR, but I can't remember.
(Yes, it revolves around the word "Paradise".)
I don't know about y'all, but I think a whole article about "ponerology at a microlevel", or the misconceptions between sanity & insanity would've been a far more interesting read.
That destructoid post just sounds like an extended session of snorting coke.
I wonder if Suda made shitty games on purpose, would they be all "brown" and photo realistic?
You do make a good point. I'd much rather have more Suda games than redundant ass space marine games that all look the same.
But like the article says its going ot be tough to sell poor game design on artistic values. Especially to folks on gamefaqs and IGN.
My question is... Why should anybody be subject to poor game design simply because of artistic values?
I buy games in order to have fun & immerse myself with them, not to be subjected to poor game design, because of artistic expression.
FSR is another game with poor game design, but it works, because FSR isn't an action game. (Adventure games don't rely on good game design.)
I've always seen NMH as a Troma film made as a video game.
While Troma films do have artistic qualities. In general they are usually considered trashy & cult.
Which is exactly what GHM games are. (CULT & trashy. GHM games do tend to have more brains though, as many of them are filled with philosophical meaning.)
In order to elaborate more on Kitano's point of how random & senseless that No More Heroes blog post is.
I will now post up my own version of why Super Mario Bros. is art.
Shit, what this mothafucka been smoking? PASS THE PIPE!
"You see the mushrooms represent people, and they have a country called the mushroom kingdom. Mushroom kingdom represent the 3rd world.
That fat plumber guy, Mario represent the United States. Notice how he only wears red, white & blue colours. Oh yeah & Mario's also fucking fat.
Which represents how Mario (United States) has it so much better than the mushroom kingdom (3rd world).
Note: Mario (United States) has enough food to get obese. Whereas the 3rd world die of starvation.
Mario always has to come in & save the mushroom kingdom from the turtles & Bowser. Bowser & the turtles represent the social ills of communism, and how they try to undermine the development of 3rd world society.
No matter how many fucking commies there are. America will never succumb.
Notice how Mario (United States) always triumphs over Bowser (Communism) even though he is only one man.
You want to know why? It's because Mario represents Democracy coming to kick Commie scum ass!!!!!!"
Holy shit! I never knew that Super Marios Bros. was so deep.
If you notice I did not bother to utilize any form of political or philosophical science at all. I merely inserted my opinions as fact. Rather than paint a portrait of logic that leads you to the conclusion.
Which is exactly what that Cowzilla3 blog post did.
I do see relevant psychological messages in No More Heroes, but the subject matter of what that Destructoid post outlined was not one of them.
So Santa Destroy being empty means nothing? damn
Topdrunkee thy ILLnifique
I think you made a good example but for some reason I am like uhm maybe cus mario is red and communist are red xD
You totally misunderstood everything. Mario is italian. He's fat and he dresses in red, white and blue to symbolize how the usa uses italy for its porpouses. Mario Galaxy is a prophetic game, it says that usa is planning to sending an italian group of astronauts in the space from usa to defeat alien communists.
And peach is dressed in pink. PINK. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS REFERENCE TO RESERVOIR DOGS.
Heh, I thought the article was pretty funny myself. This, to me, is another example of silly vidya gaem journalists over-analyzing silly video game plots in some lame attempt to either:
1. Make themselves appear more intelligent then they are -or-
2. Make the game more complex than it really is to make it seem artistic or some crap like that.
Honestly, nothing in the article seemed all that groundbreakingly insightful. Guess this is the consequence of making a game appeal to the mainstream.
