WTF is Gungrave?
Alright, I've heard about this series a lot, and yet I still have no idea what exactly it is. From what I've seen the game seems to be some kind of action shooter starring yet another silent badass type in a trenchcoat, yet from what I've heard of the anime based on it, it's some complex, plot-driven crime story. What the hell don't I get about this?

Well I dont know anything at all about Gungrave, but there seems to be a HUGE fanbase for it. Here is an AnimeNFO link AnimeNFO; Gungrave

Ahem, I'll field this question since I fancy myself to be the ultimate Gungrave connissouer. Just check my Beyond the Grave avatar and fancy moniker that is taken from the anime. I'll also not spoil anything... Gungrave is the result of Trigun's creator Yashiro Nightow's entry into the video game market. Everything was created by Nightow, the characters, the plot, everything. The game even delivered on the PS2 as a fast paced, frenzied, cel-shaded, 3rd person shooter/melee game where the only game objective was literally "kick their ass." However it became an instant sleeper hit. Much like Killer 7. The plot is very simple. The man known as Beyond the Grave used to be THE best assassin for a crime syndicate called Millenium. However internal politics caused Grave to meet a rather awful death. Yet, he did not die. Instead he walks the streets wielding the huge twin pistols "CERBEROS" (<-typed as spelled in the first game, the real spelling is cerberus) and carrying a coffin filled with other weapons on his back, looking to exact his crazy revenge on Millenium. Gungrave also saw a sequel game called Gungrave OD, or overdose, on the PS2. The game included new playable characters, and even more destruction. The anime is based directly off the first game. I see it as very rare for a video game to earn a 27 episode long anime series without haveing an actual manga series. The anime starts off as a prequel to the action of the first game, then goes even farther back into a plot flashback that lasts for about 7 episodes or so. As for father description, I will answer all questions, but know this, both games should be looked into, and the anime series is definelty one to watch. I'd say, however, the anime is more of a drama than full blown action. The anime also boasts a killer soundtrack, as does the first game. All this should apply 100% more if you are a Trigun/Trigun Maximum fan.

Apparantly youtube has several of the episodes posted, I guess I'll check the first one out and stop by the local gamestop, they might have a used copy of Gungrave. Thanks for the help.

Oh yeah I remember the Gungrave game! Wasn't it made by Sega? If it wasn't....I still remember the look of the game anyway! :P

Watched a couple episodes, the first and second one were pretty different. Seems like a really cool series.

Its worth youre time if you go through them all. And the games are just plain awsome. Beyond the Grave is more of a talker in the anime than the games. I believe he says not one word in the first game, and says 5 in the second game. Oh and the first game has a wonderful ending.

Lisker- 08-03-2006

I got it, and beat it. The ending was...brief.

Gungrave = Anime Sorpranos

True Grave- 08-06-2006

I guess I was thinking about how a buddy interacted with the ending of the first Gungrave. He had no clue you could manually end it, so he ended up wait about an hour for somethign to happen. Kinda like the ending of MGS3. And Topdrunkee also makes a great point.

Lisker- 08-10-2006

Took me about a minute in both of those games, but...shit, an hour? I'd think he'd at least assume it was frozen or something...

True Grave- 08-10-2006

Yeah, or he's ridiculosly slow. I loved Beyond the Grave's final demolition shot on Fangoram. And his final demo shot on Bunji.

Ohhh nice... Could be a good time... Its not a terribly hard game is it :/?

Lisker- 09-28-2006

Not at all. Might be too easy.

THAT WAS ME  I swear it said I was logged in on the screen before...
