"TAKE ME HIGHER..."

I wanted to at least get three or four pages finished, but there was a black out here at lakewood wahington so I had to settle with the two pages that I already finished.
I'm not sure if the downloads work, because I didn't bother to check. Damn that lay out looks beautiful,

http://www.killer7.3dactionplanet.gamespy.com/silver/index.htm

Be sure to check out the index page thorougly.
There's at least three movie files that you can view from the index page.
(I'm trying to recreate the film window from the game, but since I'm too lazy to stream movie files, s you get static pictures & animted .gifs instead.)
Silver Case is probably what Parasite Eve & Snatcher's love child would look like if the child happened to inherit most of his father's side (Snatcher),but also has the eerie vibe & exoticness of his mother (Parasite eve)

Silver Case is a digi comic just like Snatcher, but unlike Snatcher you actually get full 3D control of your character. In Snatcher you had to tell Gilian where you wanted to look & walk. In Silver case all you need is your analog sticks.
(Don't get your hopes up though. The 3D looks more like Devil Summoner Soul Hackers or Wizardry in a modern day setting.)
I have all the info I need to make a good site. Right now I'm busy making animated .gifs to further re create the feel of the game.

Knowing Suda's apparent admiration for Lynch's work and how he spray references to Lynch all over the place, along with Suda's own style of storytelling, I sometimes see things from Lynch's work that immediately remind me of Suda's games. One of these things is character design choices.

Don't know if this was intentional or not. What I think is that Twin Peaks was quite big in Japan and maybe TopDrunkee could shed a little more light here, since he lived there.

Anyway, today as I was watching this magazine article with a photo of FBI agent Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks...

I said to myself "shit! Sumio Kodai!".

Thought it was curious.

I wouldn't know. I was living in Germany, or Azores during the early 90's.
I didn't come to japan till the late 90's.
When I was in Japan the American shows of the day were Ally McBeal, & X-Files.
These days I think it's 24. (At least was a year or two ago.)

I will say that Japan does seem to have a love affair with all things post modern & abstract. So I wouldn't be too surprised if Twin Peaks actually was big in Japan during the early 90's.
My first experience with surrealism was actually the original Persona games, and it's pretty obvious that they too were somewhat influenced by Twin Peaks. (Namely the Velvet Room.)
The original Devil Summoner series (Devil Summoner & Soul Hackers) was very lynchian like. Especially this one character who went by the name of Redman.
Devil Summoner once had its own live action tv series that I assume was similar to Twin Peaks, or X-files at least.

Have you seen Strange Circus?
I'm pretty sure you'd dig it. It's very Lynchian/Sudaish.
Though I feel it's a bit better than both Suda & Lynch. (Srtrange Circus is mostly similar to Inalnd Empire, & Flower Sun and Rain.)
Lynch's Inland Empire had some serious pacing issues, and FSR is straight up confusing if you're not already familiar with the Silver Case narrative.
Strange Circus doesn't have the problems that those two properties share.
There was once a time when you could watch the entire movie on youtube, but this will do.

strange circus best scenes

The surreal circus scenes remind me of what I was trying to pull off with the daydream cafe scenes in daydream cafe.

Here's a more detailed description of the movie.

I said to myself "shit! Sumio Kodai!".

He sure looks like Sumio. Same attiree & everything.
Suda does seem to have a habit of taking real life personalities, and making them into characters for his own narratives.
So I have to agree that he actually did lift Cooper's likeness for his SC design of Sumio Kodai.

He did the same exact thing with FSR when he borrowed the likeness of a famous japanese actor for his design of Sumio Mondo/Kodai.
ImageImage
Once again Sumio is geared up in the same exact attire as his real life counterpart.

Another thing Twin Peaks & SC have in common is that they both revolve around police investigations with paranormal undertones.
That & they both exhibit commentary about religion, spirituality, & practically everything else that falls under the supernatural category.

I was browsing through the Silver Case page when I noticed there was a novel in the Fan/art Merchandise section. It has the title Case#4.5Face. Does anyone know anything about this, or if it is an accurate description of what happens in the Silver Case? Was interested in reading it but was wondering if it would be worth my time since I have no real clue about this story.

It's an extra chapter of the story. I have no idea what it's about tought.
amazon.co.jp
I hope that its sytory will be included in the remake of the game.
(I don't think it will tought. The SC remake is probably going to be gayed up animu bullshit.)

I honestly couldn't care less about the novel if it actually were just a retelling of SC.
What sucks is that the novel is an actual canon chapter that takes place during CASE 4 (The chapter that focuses on internet terrorism.), and there's no way for us Westerners to get a hold of it.

It chronicles around the Sakura Natsume character (She's the girl on the cover of the book.) who fills in as Sumio's replacement after he was sent to jail for terrorism.
(Sumio wasn't framed or anything. He actually does murder an entire city during SC. That's part of what makes the plots for Suda's games so awesome. They don't have the typical videogame plot twists at all.
This Sumio is also the same exact Sumio that you control in Flower, Sun, & Rain.)
In fact it's said that there's a couple chapters in this book where Sakura Natsume is actually interrogating Sumio about the Parade incident.
(We later find out that Tetsuguro Kusabi bailed Sumio out of jail during the ending of the videogame FSR.)

Case 4.5 adds in details about Sakura, Chizuru, & Sumio that we didn't get to see during SC. We only heard about Chizuru's & Sakura's rivalry in passing, but the only time we really see it is when Sakura abruptly barges in on you, and shoots Chizuru in the face.
This is Chizuru.
Image
This is her after Sakura kills her.
Image
This is Chizuru a couple hours earlier in the final chapter before Uehara Kamui gets shot to death by a police death squad.
Image
This is Chizuru on some SC cover art. (The other two are Sumio, & Tetsuguro.)
Image
This is Chizuru during the Spectrum chapter that focuses on her maternity.
Image
I'm posting these pics up just to show that Chizuru was supposed to be a main character. So it's surprising that she meets a tragic end when she gets smoked. (She chose the wrong side. She sided with her family.)
Although practically everybody dies in SC except Tokio, Sakura, Tetsuguro, & Sumio. Notice how three of the four survivors are also in the game Flower, Sun, & Rain. (Along with Sundance Shot, Toriko Kusabi, and the head of the FSO/CCO coalition.)
I'm guessing that Sakura Natsume wasn't in FSR, because she seems to have gotten promoted or some shit during the SC 25 Ward sequel.
Her boss becomes the new head of the 24 Ward after Tetsuguro killed his own boss, and Chizuru's father was discovered to be the man who fabricated the Silver Case. (Her father in turn was actually killed during the Silver Case incident, and it was actually one of her brothers who transmigrated into her father's body all along.)

The guy to the right of Sakura is her boss.
Image

Sakura Natsume barely had any screen time during the Silver Case game.
Which is why I think they chose her to be the focus of the novel.
(She has the most political clout out of the four SC survivors.
Only Tokio Morishima seems to be more connected then her. Sumio & Tetsuguro are the two pawns.)
The only chapter that Sakura appeared in game was during the final chapter Life Cut. She arrived with a guy who turns out to be a mole for Sundance's former org/party. (The same Sundance from FSR.)
Sakura has nothing to do with him or Sundance though since Sakura is the daughter of the guy who used to lead the Japanese paramilitary forces until he was killed by Kamui at the begining of the game.

Shit, I love reminiscing about SC's plot. I wouldn't consider it literature or anything. It just has so much going on, and a lot of the cause & effects just add up to make one epic ass pulp Sci fi occult horror noir story. (That's sadly fragmented, because Suda51 splits the plot into individual games. MS is one chap. SC is another. FSR was the end of the trilogy. Yet it wasn't the end of the plot at all.)

I'm still pissed that Suda hasn't continued his Yayoi Hanayama/Itsushima storyline yet. He claimed that she was one of his favorite characters, and that he was planning to use her more in the future.
I was looking forward to that because of all the implied shit that she may have done during MS.
She's practically the only human character in the KTP story who not only has possession of paranormal powers, but she also has enough influence to get gods killed.
Note: I think I read somewhere in the original Twilight Syndrome games (I can't remember which TS game I was playing, because they all look the same, lol.) that claimed that the Itsushima (Chizuru's family) are supposed to be exorcists. I think, since Chizuru's older sister also had paranormal powers.
Hell, Mithra had to kill Chizuru's sister two times, because she wouldn't stay dead. Mithra kills her body once, and then he killed her soul later on after her spirit lead Ryo to him.
What's funny is how easily Mithra kills Chizuru's sister. (I can't remember her sister's name.) Yet Mithra also gets simply killed off by one of Yayoi's plots. Which then reveals one of the main plot twists in MS.
That it was actually Yayoi who was playing the master/leader role. Mithra was just a (subservient) pet god who she let loose on Earth to "play" around with some humans.

Ah well, this is why you should never get invested in a videogame's story.
None of the good ones ever get the chance to properly end. (The ones that do have been terrible. MGS.)
The vid game series that actually do have respectable endings have been revived, and turned into animu bullshit. (Persona.)
